Last yr I took 3 lessons & really changed my swing. I'm hitting the ball pretty good now but still hit the occasional fat shot or top it. Don't know if it's a lack of concentration or a swing flaw. I hit my driver well & put pretty good too. So I'll just ask for a tuneup/ evaluation. I was thinking of asking speciffically for shot game pointers. I think I'll make significant progress this yr but so far in 5 outings this yr, I'm still making stupid mystakes. When can I expect to see big strokes off? I"m shooting probably 100 right now. If I could shoot low 90's I'de be happy.

HEY BLAGO, SUCK MY ASS!! How's that for proper grammer. The rest of you....thanks. I'll sign up for a few more lessons. Course management is big, and I'm improving. I bought some Tietlest DTR irons on ebay cheap & regripped them w/ oversize grips. I already see a difference w/ these clubs. Although slightly smaller in profile from my cleveland quadpro's, they seem much more accurate. I'm hitting some fine shots. > Since you claim to be hitting the ball "pretty good" and "put pretty > good too", the problem must be your recovery game, as 100 sucks big > time. If you care about scoring you need to work on short game and course management. But it looks like you know that. Definitely take a short game lesson. In fact, take several, and from different pros. Every pro has his own tricks. Video yourself chipping, pitching, putting, and making sand shots. You may discover that you do things different than you think. Check your alignment, especially. Find a good place to practice the short game, and spend most of your practice time there. Your scores will improve.

Fat and thin are about stretching that occurs, change of position between setup and impact that has to occur, and management of back and knees during the shot. THAT requires knowledge if you don't have extremely extraordinary hand/eye coordination, and clearly you do not have THAT to the degree that is dreamt of or you wouldn't be writing this problem here. Find instruction that teaches it. George Hibbard www.perfectimpact.com

Absent that, there are some ways to improve both your course management and your mental game. One book you might look for is "Butch Harmon's Playing Lessons." Great book for explaining issues of course management, for three different levels of playing ability. The book has the added advantage of explaining how to play a variety of shots, trouble shots, special shots, like that. Great book. If course management is part of what's derailing you, consider getting a couple of books on course design. In learning about course design, you learn how course architects arrange holes to try to fool you. Tom Doak's book is a good one, and if you want my views of a number of such books, try this: http://tinyurl.com/22s9sv It's probably time, also, for some work on the mental game. One of the best books for that is Rotella's "Golf is Not a Game of Perfect." I think you'll like those books. I did this a couple of weeks ago and thought it was very good for me. You (WW) mentioned your swing - implying that you have been working at the range with your full swing. A full swing can look great - but you still miss the green a bit. Bogie golfers can be a bit off to do so. And we don't practice our partial swings enough. It's easy to not accelerate through our partial swing shots on the course, hitting short of the green. You've reached the stage where the short game is more important than your tee shots. (This stage never ends as you improve more). It takes lots of rounds of golf for most of us to get better slowly from our respective natural starting points.

If you don't play many times per week, expect to be inconsistent. Accept it or play more. Otto
