After being away from TV for a couple of weeks I turned on the TGC taped
coverage of Torrey Pines last night. After cursing over the incessant
drivel commentary and constant commercial interruptions I simply forgot to
"unmute" the TV after one round of commercials and found that in general
it's a lot less annoying to just leave the sound off. I just don't find
reminscing about other players or tournaments, debating pronunciation or
song lyrics or speculating about what the contestants do off the course
enhances my understanding or enjoyment of what's going on. It would be nice
if they could show us more golf being played, but with the sound off it is
at least not irritating.

Ran into an issue during the late start of the broadcast (Big 10
basketball gets the local channel here) where the HD channel had all
sound except announcers. On course folks, green microphones, ambiance
microphones, etc. all worked, just missed out on the inane chatter.
It was wonderful! It truly was just like being there. Unfortunately
it only lasted 5 minutes or so.

How to watch golf coverage.

Go to www.tvguide.com

Enter the words "National Football League" into the search bar, and
click.

Tune to that channel.

Poker maybe. Steroids should be made in the shape of footballs.

Really, someone should have a contest where 'amateurs' give their own
account of the golf. The winners can make their own live co-broadcast via
podcast or whatever.

Just wait until Tiger and Wife have the kid !! You think you have
heard Drivel ?? You " aint heard No drivel "
till u hear that. Recall when Mikleson had the kid .. and he would
appear at the 18th green with the
obligatory FAWNING ?? It will be exponentially increased Drivel. I
think that Tiger's wife should fly
to the British Open ..have the baby over there ...and bring the kid to
the 18th green. Hell Tiger can
have a special Hospital built and fly in a TEAM OF DOCTORS..

I agree its really really bad and boring...I still beg and hope that one day
we can get SAP for the broadcast without announcers.

Somewhere, somebody is swinging a club....just show it!
