I live in Austin TX. We had an ice storm two years ago, but it
all melted the next day. This time I was stuck in the house
and literally could not drive my car for 3 days. The ice ended
up being about an inch thick. I lost big limbs off three of
my trees,

There is a lot to like about Colorado. When retired, if I have to live
somewhere 24/7, then your state would be tops on my list.

I like your attitude. Wish I could re-acquire it. I can only think of
two things I like about winter. Boating when there is nobody around
and working without golf-course temptations. The rest....I can live
without, for life.

We boat up here in the winter but we call them snowmobiles. I also
substitute ice-fishing for golf. The snow removal gets old but my sons are
about to take over that chore. :-)

You post as though you like winter. Not me....48th one. Winters, like
me, are getting real old. Hopefully, we y have only 8 more to go (when
my youngest graduates).

I'm no big fan of winter and this being my 56th, I've seen all the New
England winters I care to.

When I could ski every weekend and make two or three trips south each
winter, it was tolerable. But arthritis in the knees took care of the
skiing a couple of years ago. I really look forward to the trips south.

That being said, I can't complain about this winter at all. Even though
there is a solid inch thick sheet of ice on my driveway, my last round
of golf was last Saturday, January 13th. I have 13 rounds since
Thanksgiving. Normally, in this part of the world, we consider
ourselves lucky if we can get anything in past the middle of November.

So, at worst, local golf is out for 10 weeks at the most. A trip to the
Dominican Republic in February, Myrtle Beach in early ch and West
Palm Beach in later ch will satisfy the cravings until we start to
see some green again here in early April.

Remember - We only get this once every 6 or 7 years. The rest of the
time in the winter it's anywhere from 50 - 75 deg. F.

Shoveling, chipping ice, falling on your ass, 50 layers of clothes, snot
icicles, scraping windsheilds, jump starting cars.

Same is true in the PNW. Kids have been to school once out of the last
5 days. But...it's 32 degrees and the 4 inches of snow is starting to
melt. Should be a balmy 38 degrees this weekend. Hope so....we're
boatin' in it, courtesy of a honda generator and a ceramic heater.

I've been stuck in the house for two days. My driveway
and the road to my house are covered in a half inch thick
sheet of clear wet ice. If I tried driving, I could probably
leave, but there is no way I could make it back up the hill
to my house to get home. I've never seen worse driving
conditions, and I've lived up north before.

There are foot long ice cicles hanging from the gutters,
and in a very bizzare scene, the leaves of grass have
ice cicles hanging from them, too.

I take it that you're in the midwest. Is this occurence that unusual
where you live? I understand the concern in Texas, but they don't have
this happen often.

I'd much rather have 3 feet of snow than 1 inch of ice.

Nah, in your world, the neighbors know how to drive on it, too.
Plus, your town has snow plows and you probably own tire chains.
Finally, this will be gone before I get a chance get get sick of
it. :)

I don't know if I'd go that far Chris. You should see the traffic/accidents
when it snows here. At least you guys have an excuse. :-)

So you're not sick of it yet? Winter is just starting up here finally.

Sorta. Bigger extremes. Texas is starting to get ice/snow
storms further south than observed before on a semi-regular
basis.

Kickass! We have an excuse! :)

Nah, I'm just sitting in my recliner with my laptop, trying to
tweak some LDAP queries and killing time on Usenet. Plus the
view out my window is kinda pretty.

And...you're even farther south than those of us up here in arctic
