The new grooves DO allow noticeably better spin to be imparted to the
ball.

This clearly runs against the "spirit" in which the rules are
written.

It is a significant advantage, the most significant improvement
in shotmaking for clubs under the 5-i in over 3 decades.

And in golf, technology that significantly improves shotmaking
is illegal!

While I like making them illegal - how does this run against the
"spirit" more than a multitude of other equipment changes we have had
to make the game easier?

Dunno why they don't just takes urethane coated balls off the approved
list. They are the only balls that give a pro any advantage with u
grooves.....seems a lot simpler than having every club manufacturer and
player in the world worry about them!

Ahh, excuses can be valuable.

Dark-siders will really enjoy the other proposed rule. The
"adjustability" rule will make it easy to change shafts before a
round.

It won't make a significant difference to me, but if it punishes pros
more for missing the fairway, then I like it.

Won't mean squat to me. I don't have that level game. For the Pro's it
should help improve the skill level a bit more.

I'm for it. It'll encourage the pros to be more accurate and develop
their shotmaking skills, and won't make much of a difference to the
typical amateur.
