Maybe I'll try to get out there once while the weather is still decent, after the aeration has some time to heal. > I have not played NECC for a long time. Carts may be mandatory at NECC on weekends, but on any day it's a good idea to ride. Unfortunately, there are some very long green to tee distances. I appreciate a course that is set up with walkers in mind. I don't mind hills, but it's not good to have to walk a 1/4 mile or more on a cart path to get to the next tee. For all my complaints about Maplegate, it's at least a reasonable walking course. Maplegate does have very strange pull cart rules/restrictions. I never use one, so I haven't paid too much attention to the rules. One of the guys in the "pro shop" made it sound like the owner has threatened to fire people if he _ever_ sees a pull cart out on the course when he doesn't want them there. - cja

It's a 9-hole course, not too far off 495, and should be about the same driving time for both of you. NECC and Maplegate both provide a fairly severe test of your golf game. If you're choosing between those two, I recommend New England over Maplegate, mostly because of the Maplegate staff's well-deserved reputation for rudeness and bad service. I played NECC on 7/29 and it was in good shape. I haven't played Maplegate since last year, but I heard they haven't been maintaining it as well this year as in the past. - cja

Any decent course would have mentioned their planned aerating when I called the day before to make the tee times!! The course was in good shape except the greens were very slow...they probably did not cut them as they planned to aerate. I have not played NECC for a long time. I think NECC requires carts. Maplegate will let you walk but will only allow pull carts before noon on weekdays (or something like that). Ed
