simple question.... can you use a different type of ball on certain holes? i.e. short par 3 with tough hole location vs. long par 5... use a high spin on par 3, low spin on long par 5.... a guy in my office said the PGA tour has a local rule where you have to play the same ball type for whole round.... is that true for top amateur tournaments? or is it considered basic etiquette??.... i guess i could also ask if people think it's a good idea. thanks in advance!!! also curious what are the lowest spinning balls.

The PGA TOUR adopts the 'One Ball Condition' which can be found in Appendix I of your Rule book. If that condition has not been adopted then players may change types of balls anytime that the Rules allow them to substitute a ball (including between the play of two holes). Generally, the One Ball Condition of Competition is adopted only in professional events or those limited to highly skilled amateurs (i.e. you won't usually see it adopted at a club-level event). It's a good idea if it works for you. I tend to use balls that feel good when putting or chipping. In 'leaf season' I will play any old ball, however. -- +++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Mr. People who use golf as some sort of status Aress symbol are destined to go unfulfilled.
