Three more promising young Aussies look like forcing their way onto the
USPGA Tour next year.

Michael Sim was the top-ranked world amateur player in 2005. He turned
pro at the end of 2005, and immediately lost his first Nationwide event,
the Jacobs Creek Open, in a play-off. With his play-off victory over Ken
Duke today in the Nationwide Palmetto Pride Classic, Sim rises to 18th
on the Nationwide money list, almost guaranteeing promotion to the USPGA
tour for 2007 with two events to play.

Andrew Buckle was the 2001 Australian Amateur Champion. In July he won
his first professional event in the USA, the Virginia Beach Open, by
five shots. He has since had two more top 3 and five top 10 Nationwide
placings, to sit 17th on the money list.

Jarrod Lyle will be more familiar to some from media coverage of his
childhood battle with leukaemia. He has been consistent on the
Nationwide this year: 16 cuts from 19 events, seven top 10 and four top
5 placings, and 14th on the money list.

Hoping to see some good results from these three next year.

I'd guess they all probably live in Scottsdale with their fellow Aussies.
You need to come out here and visit Colin. You'd fit right in!

I was nearly going to say the population of Scottsdale will increase.

Hey Colin,

How dry is Trentham at the moment?

Cheltenham is as dry as.... the hill on the seventh is just dust with a
smattering of dead grass.
18 months ago when I used to play Moorabbin (sorry "City of Kingston") I
remember that the fairways were still in excellent condition while places
like Sandringham were dried out.

Drove past Moorabbin during the week and it still looked quite lush.

Dried significantly from two weeks ago. Still greenish but it's hard to
believe it's still only ober. Our ober average rainfall is about
90mm, we've had 4.5mm. We should have lush spring growth at this time of
year.

Talking to some guys from Hepburn Springs GC yesterday, they reckon
they'll be out of water completely by December. Castlemaine is not good,
nor is Kyneton. We've got enough water for greens and tees to last the
summer, but the rest of the course will be as dry as chips by mid-November.

Trentham (and my property!) has just got onto Google Earth in high
resolution. Type "Trentham, Australia" into Google Earth, and the course
is just north of the township. The pictures were taken about March-April
this year and it was really dry then. You can see the new greens we
built under construction on the eastern side of the course.

Wow. I don't think I've seen anything like that. Tee, dust, green.
