Shot 78 on the Euro Tour. In response to one of the questions about
shooting 78:

"You know, if you think about it, minus the par threes, I only shot two
over."

Sure...two over for 14 holes. Maybe they'll "minus" the par threes for
her tomorrow...who knows.

Too late for the juniors, but I agree; she hasn't proven herself on
courses just north of 6000 yards - there is no reason aside from Nike
dollars for her to continually subject herself to these drubbings by
men on both sides of The Pond. Speaking of short courses, this course
they are playing is 6800 and change - then knock 10% off for altitude,
and she should be right at home.

As an aside, she just looked awful out there today. Drivers pulled
dead left, par three tee shots that would make "Ben Hogan puke", I saw
a couple of green side sand shots skanked over the green completely, a
ginched putt from three feet that didn't even sniff the hole, miserable
pitches/half wedges. I don't think this round was indicative of her
ability on her best day, but it is indicative of how she performs in
the big picture on the PGA/Euro/Nationwide Tours.

Much respect for the game she does have - which is obviously
considerable. The skills are not in question; the choice of venues is
definitely suspect.

I agree - at this point if she ever made a cut in a men's tourney, it would
seem more of a fluke rather than a real accomplishment. It too bad - but
also too late.

Interesting comment because of Sergio's earlier in the week. It seems
like this European course was not well suited to her game. I have no
problem with Wie playing in "men's" tournaments, but she and her
entourage should be more selective about the events that they choose.
This choice didn't work.

Given that she's had a considerable break, and mentioned in an interview
having just started school again, I wonder if it may be in part a case of
her game just not being in good shape at the moment. I haven't seen any of
the coverage, but a couple reports of atrocious play sound like she was just
'off' the past two days.

hope she can get it together next week - she's going to get a lot more
attention at the 84 Lumber, with its 7500+ yards, and a course that long is
going to be more of a challenge than maybe any of the events she's yet
played against the guys.

I don't care what she says up or down, I found it funny; and are you
telling me if your buddy told you "I would have only shot 17 over if I
didn't have to play the par threes today!" you wouldn't laugh him out
of the grill room? Whatebber...

Also, no one has mentioned here that she is sponsored by Omega and that
the Euro Tour allows, but doesn't publicize or encourage, appearance
fees on the actual continent - usually reserved for the off-continent
tourneys - Dubai and the like. Anyway, this reeks to me of a
promotional appearance, nothing more. I mean, she lives in Hawaii -
why some random Euro event in Switzerland? Money and contractual
obligations.

Yes, we wouldn't want to sully a professional golf tour with people
who play for money. The least they could do is make her sleep in her
car, like Hagen.

Teenager Michelle Wie crashed out of the European Masters after
finishing 15 over for two round at Crans-sur-Sierre.

The 16-year-old again hit some wild shots and ran up successive double
bogeys in a 79 that left her three adrift at the bottom of the field.

Playing partner Nick Dougherty did not fare much better, suffering a
quadruple bogey in a 72 for a nine-over total.

Marcel Siem and Bradley Dredge shared the early halfway lead at seven
under, with Sergio Garcia a later starter.

Wie was at a loss to explain her wayward driving and said: "I didn't
even know what sport I was playing out there."

She dismissed suggestions that she did not warrant a place on the
leading Europeam men's tour.

She said: "You can't learn to play against men by playing against
women. This doesn't scare me off it makes me more determined."

The Hawaiian now intends to work with coaching guru David Leadbetter
ahead of an appearance on the men's tour in America.

"I think I know what to work on," she said. "But I'm looking forward to
wider fairways and bigger greens!"

Wie has now missed the cut in nine of her 10 men's appearances and
European Tour boss George O'Grady said he would need "a lot of
persuading" before she was invited back to a tour event.

"She is a phenomenal talent that has not played to her potential. We
can see the interest it created but I think it's time to evaluate and
take stock."

Well, I could say to her what my buddies would say to me after
shooting rounds where two triple bogies kept me from being under par:
"Golf is 18 holes, not 16..get the f--k over it!"

There is a difference between "playing" for sponsorship/appearance
money and "competing" for prize money. She is very clearly in the
category of the former in this instance. Omega? Random event in
Switzerland? Even the announcers pondered how much she was paid to
appear. But yeah, you're right, she belongs there. DFL/15 over par
for two days in a random Euro event played on a 6800 yard course in the
Alps (10% altitude factor = ~ 6200 yds) is a stellar showing doing her
psyche a world of good.

I'll say it again: Most talented 16 year old golfer on the planet,
male or female? Probably. Ridiculous phenom? Of course. Ready for
the bigs? 78/79 says no.

Whatever they paid her, she's worth it. I'll bet that 90% of the
Americans who tuned in, did it to see her. I'll bet that 0% of
anybody who tuned in gave a crap who the announcers were. I wonder
how much *they* were paid? How much do you think the Bank of Scotland
paid Jack to miss the cut at St. Andrews last year, which just
happened to be when they literally printed money with his picture on
it?

> But yeah, you're right, she belongs there.

You must have me mixed up with someone else. I never said she
belonged there, I just said I don't blame her for accepting either the
invitation or the money. But let me know when they print $5 bills
with Michelle's picture on them, and sell them for $10.

Obviously didn't work too well, The Bank of Scotland didn't print any
notes to do with golf. It was The Royal Bank of Scotland. Kind of like
mixing up Coke and Pepsi, just because they have cola in their name.
