Well it's really pretty simple actually. When you participate all year with people who give you feed back on stuff like: Why can't I break 100? Why can't I break 90? Do you think Mo Norman had any good ideas? Is Tiger good for golf? Hey Natalie, are those real? And you actually read and respond to the crap that gets laid down here, day in and day out..... Who else are you gonna bounce politics off? Some right wing or left wing nut job news groups? Or someone who knows what it's like to have >35 putts in a round? Someone who can consistently hit the ball >250 yard off the tee but hits the fairway <50% of the time? Someone who knows what a snowman is (in July) or some political hack? So you dingdongs who keep blasting the OT political posts (Mike Dalecki, for one) just lighten up. Tis the season..... Now any of you nut jobs who even think of voting for a democrat... what the F*#k is wrong with you? Vote Republican or decide which US city you want the terrorist to nuke! New Orleans would be OK but all the rift raft from there are still here in Houston (one year later).............. Can we get Osama to target Hyannis, MA? That would be soooo awesome!!!

Some are more crass than self-centered, some vice versa, some with a double dose of both. As I'm born and bred in the USofA, I've known a lot of them. I think it is much easier for an American to love a fellow American than for an outsider to do so. It's easier to forgive someone for what their culture has made of them if you understand that culture a bit. If there's no cultural overlap, faults tend to be accenuated. For that matter, virtues begin to look like faults if the cultures are far enough apart. As an example, the French tell me how wonderful they are. Due to cultural differences and snooty accents, I see that as proof enough that they are wrong. Scott

Yes, it was before 2001 --- 8.5 years before 9/11, in fact, and yet Bushites bray about Bush keeping us safe for all of five years (actually, they were doing it only a couple of years after 9/11). And yes, it was during the Clinton administration --- one month after he took office. And yet the Bushites bray about how 9/11 was all Clinton's fault, since it happened only eight months into the Bush admin. Not mentioned, but also relevant --- under Clinton, the people responsible for the first WTC attack were quickly captured, tried, and convicted, without degrading our liberties. Bush lost interest in Bin Laden within six months, which is why he's still free, five years later. And as a bonus, Bush's invasion of Iraq has made being an al Qaeda recruiter the easiest job in the world. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRY_BOYeySc

Like you said, you ain't the smartest person in the world. So what is a liberal, anyway? Definitions of liberal: broad: showing or characterized by broad-mindedness; "a broad political stance"; "generous and broad sympathies"; "a liberal newspaper"; "tolerant of his opponent's opinions" having political or social views favoring reform and progress tolerant of change; not bound by authoritarianism, orthodoxy, or tradition a person who favors a political philosophy of progress and reform and the protection of civil liberties big: given or giving freely; Yeah, that's me! I've always figured that a liberal is someone who wants change while a conservative wants to keep things as they are. If this is true, there are a whole lotta liberals in the US right now. I can't remember a time when we've needed change more than now. Liberal philosophy: You got yours ... let me get mine. Conservative philosophy: I got mine ..... fuck you.

I remember after the Iran hostage crisis of 1980, as radio stations were rallying to the flag by playing the song "Bomb-Bomb-Bomb, Bomb-Bomb Iran" (sung to the tune of the Beach Boys' "Barbara Ann"), a friend of mine observed that what America really wanted was to elect John Wayne president. Unfortunately, the Duke had died a few years earlier, so they voted in the next best thing -- Ronnie Ray-Gun. While I'm no fan of Reagan, he did, at least, unify much of the country, as evidenced by his landslide elections. And even most of us on the left will acknowledge that he restored dignity to the presidency, even if we didn't agree with some of what he did. Once again, America's machismo came to the front during the aftermath of 9/11, and understandably so. Having a tough-talkin' cowboy in the White House was -- well, it was just like having John Wayne as president. Americans like their presidents tough as nails. I'm all for tough. Unfortunately, I'm also all for smarts, something this president has shown a decided lack of. Those who voted for him share in the responsibility for the mess he's caused in Iraq and the rest of the world. But unlike Reagan, he's proven unable to unite Americans. He has, however, managed to unite the world against us. Considering all the pro-America empathy that was pouring forth from most corners of the world after 9/11, that has taken some real doing. You Republicans must be very proud. But I wonder: Given what we know, how can you possibly defend this guy today? It truly is mind-boggling to consider the widespread failures. Randy
