Subject: Why did Ogilvy get a free drop?

Geoff Ogilvy hit one against an OB fence. He had no stance, let alone
shot, and you could hear him discussing taking an unplayable. Then he
took a drop and punched out. I assumed that he had taken an
unplayable, but after an approach and two putts, his score was five,
so he must have gotten a free drop. The fence was obviously
permanent. Why did he get a free drop?
