Subject: Travel Bag - Club Glove Burst vs Last

I need a travel bag. I can get a Last for only 10 bucks more than a
Burst w/ wheels. I can't see and touch them b/c I'm getting mail order
so I need your advice. I'm not a pro (far from it) and will often be
travelling only with my stand bag, one pair of shoes, and clothes. Any
reason NOT to get the Last? Does it store as small as the burst when
empty?
Thanks

I bought the Freedom Wheeled golf bat at http://www.golfluggage.com/ It is
only $80. I have had it for a coule of years now and it is holding up very
well. It is a clone of the Club Glove Burst Proof (the site says it is
designed like the Last Bag, but it is desinged much more like the Burst
Proof).

You can put in a couple of cheap pillows from K-mart for extra protection,
but the case is already padded. The nylon is so tough that I do not think
you could cut it with a box cutter. To protect against compression damage,
you can insert a broom handle that is longer than the longest club in your
bag. In my case, I went a step further.

I went to a swimming pool supply place and bought 2 swimming pool noodles
with hollow cores. Then I bought two dowels that were 48" long each and cut
the noodles to a few inches longer than that. I sealed one end with duct
tape and inserted the dowel and then duct-taped the other end. What I have
is not only something that will guard against compression, but that is a
shock absorber. Since the dowel is not as long as the noodle, the extra few
inches of space allows the foam to compress without the dowel being
involved. It would take a huge compression to even get the foam and the
dowel even with each other. Cost was maybe $5 or $6 for both shock
absorbers. There never has been any harm to my clubs.

Gentlemen:

Thanks for the helpful responses. I've decided to go with the Burst.

Good question.
1st; with all due respect for those that will try to, don't get talked
out of the club glove.
2nd;
I used to have 2 bags, a hoofer and a Ping cart bag. I stopped with the cart
bag and now only use the hoofer (Ping stand bag). I have the big club glove
and it's way bigger than I need. I've utilized this extra capacity only a
few (2-3) times coming home from long trips where I picked up stuff while on
the trip or was just too lazy to pack nicely and threw it all in the carry
bag with my clubs (extra padding I rationalized).
The smaller burst proof is looking better to me all the time.
Here is what I've learned about bags. Any bag, golf bag, briefcase, rolling
airline bag, etc. The bigger it is, and the more pockets it has, the more
crap I will put in it. That means additional weight and that isn't good for
your back (it sure wasn't for mine).

If I buy a new travel bag (the chances are, I'll never need a new one as
good as this one is holding up) I would probably go with the smaller model.

Either way, you can't loose.

Here's my 2 cents:

I have the burst proof. I'm very happy with it.

I also have a cart bag which is fairly large (it's got those sockets
for clubs so they don't rattle). It fits in the burst proof, but it's a
tight fit.

There is room for shoes, a few other things, but it's hard to get much
more in there.

If you're expecting to have to pack clothes too, and your golf bag is
large, then a burst proof might not be enough for you. If the stand bag
is a relatively small one, then I would expect you to have enough room
for some clothes and such without any problem.

Mike

I recently went through this.

The Club Glove is nice but I think there is a better option.

The downside of the Club Glove--it's soft. It might be great for a PGA tour
player who rides in a private jet and needs his sponsors bag at every stop.
I remain unconvinced that it is the best option for commercial travel.

For the amateur travelling on commercial airlines and checking their golf
clubs, I recommend this one.

It is rock hard(you can drive your truck over it).

It is compact but holds 14 clubs.

The skin feature is wonderful(holds shoes and all you other accessories and
you can carry it on.

It is secure. It accepts a TSA approved lock.

It can be carried or carted. You can also get a stand for it if you prefer.

It takes minimal room and is relatively lightweight. It also takes less room
if you travel by other means such as automobile.

Check it out. I love mine. I looked at all the travel bags and it clearly
rose to the top for convenience, weight, protection, and size.
