Subject: Tiger's Putting the Last Two Rounds

In tracking my own golf game I use a table that defines 'decent putting'. This table has 99 entries numbered 1-99. Each entry then has the number of putts that define how many putts on average it should take me to hole out from that distance (in feet) if I am putting pretty good (for me). As you might guess the entries for 1 and 2 are 1.0 (I should make all my 1' and 2' putts). For 3' it is 1.1 (miss 1 out of 10), for 20' it is exactly 2.0 (equal number of 1 putts and 3 putts). For 50' it is 2.25, etc. These values are arbitrary and not based on anything specific. For a typical round I average around 1 to 1.5 strokes more than this table says that I should take for 'decent putting'. In watching the last two rounds I took my best guess at the distance of every putt that Tiger had and compared his total putting against my definition of 'decent putting'. On Saturday Tiger was approx. 3.5 strokes better than 'decent putting'. On Sunday Tiger was 6.5 strokes better than decent putting. Or put another way on those last two days Tiger putted about 6 strokes/18 holes better than I typically do (all other things being equal, which they are not of course). dave
