Subject: Tiger passes The Haig

Yesterday, Tiger moved past Walter Hagen to become the 2nd Greatest
Player of All-Time.
This, according to those who use Majors as their barometer. Tiger's 12
Majors ties him with the combined totals of Nick Faldo/Lee Trevino and
Sam Snead/Byron Nelson.

It doesn't seem that long ago that Faldo was by far the best player in
the world, his 6 Majors attesting to his greatness. But next to Tiger,
he looks like a chump. That was only 10 years ago.
I thought it was funny when David Feherty said that he retired about 10
minutes after Tiger turned pro, figuring "What's the point?"

Also, I can remember in Jack's heyday 20 years ago when everyone
(including Jack) talked about his 20 Majors. The 18 number was simply
an asterisk. But when Tiger came along with his 3 Amateur titles, the
magic number somehow got shifted to 18.

Those who believe that must believe that Hagen was once the GOAT, then
#2, and now #3.

No, I think people came to their senses before that. 18 had been
"the figure" well before Tiger.
