Subject: Steve Who?

So I'm watching the PGA today, and my mind harkens back (harkens?) to
the 96 US Amatuer where Woods comes back from like 6 holes down, drops
a couple of 30-footers and beats Steve SomethingOrOther in extra holes
for his 3rd straight Amatuer. Then he turns pro, wins a couple of
tourneys, wins the Masters, wins everything else, makes a bazillion
dollars, becomes the most famous athlete on the planet, and marries
Jesper Parnavik's nanny. Shit happens.

So I'm wondering where Steve SomethingOrOther is now, and is he
sitting at the lodge telling every drunken slob within earshot that he
really was just one putt away from not only changing the face of golf,
but having a legitimate shot at Jesper Parnivik's nanny?

Where is that guy now? Anyone know?

His name is Steve Scott. He played a couple years on the Canadian Tour but
he isn't on the PGA or Nationwide tour currently. The last year he played
regularly on the Canadian Tour was 2004.

He was a lot closer to winning than one putt. I'm going from memory
now, but IIRC he was two up as they were playing the 34th hole of the
final. Tiger's ball was right in his line, and he asked Tiger to move
his marker over to the side. After he putted, Tiger apparently forgot
to move his marker back, and Steve reminded him. If he hadn't, Tiger
would have lost the hole, and therefore the match.

Yes, you're absolutely correct about that. I remember Johnny Miller
making a comment about it at the time. I guess nice guys really do
finish last. Or second anyway.

Oh well, I remember that he had a cute girlfriend who was caddying for
him. 'Course, she probably dumped him shortly thereafter and made a
play for Tiger. Everyone loves a winner after all.

Really? Good for Steve. I remember that she was incredibally
supportive throughout that final round. Steve's a lucky guy.

Steve Scott.

He plays on the lesser tours, IIRC.

Back when I was taught the rules, it was explained to me that a
competitor is suppose to help avoid rules infractions. Etiquette
would tend to require that Steve have reminded Tiger of having
moved the marker, especially since Tiger moved it at Steve's request.

Of course. He did the right thing, and I would hope every golfer
would do the same. But he could have forgotten like Tiger did, or not
noticed that Tiger didn't move it back.

No, he married the nanny herself. She does have an identical twin
sister though.

Steve Scott is living large with his cute caddie on the 30 million Nike
gave him to blow
his 4 up lead.
