This blew my mind.

Let me give a little background first. This is about a member of our
club, call him Jeff. In his early forties, he was once a plus
handicap golfer but in his twenties fried his brain with drugs. Now he
has a myriad of problems, including high blood pressure, diabetes,
obesity and emotional instability, and is on prescriptions for all of
those things. Thankfully, he has a very substantial income from a
large trust fund left by his dad. Nice guy, but sometimes is totally
out of it. He can shoot 75 or 105, depending on his drug levels.

Yesterday we were in the nineteenth hole and I was told by a buddy
that Jeff said that he has a real difficult time remembering names of
members, but that if he had ever played golf with them he knew what
clubs they played. They challenged him on that, and he went through
four guy's clubs…knowing all of them. I haven't played golf in the
same group with him for a couple of months, and didn't believe it, but
he was sitting at the next table, so I called out to him and said "Hey
Jeff, what clubs are in my bag?" Without hesitation he said "Taylor
MadeRAC irons, Taylor Made R5 driver, 18 and 21 degree Snake Eye
rescue clubs and a Cleveland sand wedge". Stunned I asked what my
putter is…thinking that since it's a really old one he'd miss. "Ping
69" was the answer…and correct.

Then six others went through the same dialogue, and he didn't miss
once.

I had to re-think about the sand wedge since I had changed since we
had played together. He was right.

He's not that challenged, and knows his problems and limitations.
Another poster was right about him being lucky for the trust fund
though...and he readily admits it.

Or Autistic. There was a show (discovery channel?) about a guy that was a
human calculator but had very good social skills and by all rights was just
like you and me. durring the show he met other people with the same or even
better abilities; the catch was they were all Autistic. They also performed
some tests and examinations that showed the guy was also Autisitc but that
he had the ability to socialize and do normal day-to-day things.

Yeah, this definitely sounds like autism spectrum stuff.

Yep. Hell, I think Ben Hogan was an Asperger's Syndrome poster boy.
