I'm curious, what exactly is the purpose in convincing people of the role as the underdog in this event? I have read several articles on the upcoming Ryder Cup and have found the Europeans still holding tight to that role. Ian Woosnan, much to his credit has not pressed this issue as much as some of the press coming from Europe. Even in a thread about the Ryder Cup in this NG posted earlier stated "Of course I want Europe to win - but not with a great margin. Ideally it should be down to the last putt on the last green in the last group. I root for Europe but I think that this time US are strong favourites. May the best man win. THIS TIME ! It's everytime. It's the same 'ol line. Now I don't argue the fact, statistacally we have the upperhand in money earned, however, calculated from 2 different tours. Major's won, just can't argue that. However, these are measured almost entirely on stroke play events. A different animal than match play...therefore, doesn't apply. Now lets look at some recent history, shall we? . The US hasn't won the Ryder Cup on foreign soil since '93. . Actually, the US has only won the Ryder Cup once since '93 ('99 at Brookline where the Americans were lambasted for poor sportsmanship) . Since 1983 Europe has over the US: 6 to 4 wins, 140 to 124 match won, 162 to 146 points, 54 to 35 fourball wins (the US has eked out wins in foursomes and singles) . In the last outing the US was thrashed 18.5 to 9.5 on our own soil with what appeared to be one of the strongest teams assembled. . Lastly, the US has a quartet of Ryder Cup rookies this year -- Taylor, Henry, Johnson and Wetterich. Jeez, let it go already. This is just my observation, you may begin to rip into me, as I am sure to be the underdog!

My gut feeling is that this year the Americans are stronger and will win the cup. I want it the other way, but this is what I believe. F

When criminals in this world appear, And break the laws that they should fear, And frighten all who see or hear, The cry goes up both far and near for Underdog, Underdog, Underdog, Underdog. Speed of lightning, roar of thunder, Fighting all who rob or plunder Underdog, Underdog. When in this world the headlines read Of those who's hearts are filled with greed And rob and steal from those in need. To right this wrong with blinding speed goes Underdog, Underdog, Underdog, Underdog. Speed of lightning, roar of thunder, Fighting all who rob or plunder Underdog, Underdog. -- -- David "Thor" Collard -- My It is golf. -- 11th annual RSG-Ohio Sept 15-17 2006
