Hey all - I'm looking for some good golf reads. I will go on Amazon but I thought I'd stop here and ask. Any ideas? Fiction - Non- Fiction, it doesn't matter. Thanks...

Mark Frost's 2 books, "The Greatest Game Ever Played" about Francis Ouimet's win at the 1913 US Open and "The Grand Slam" about Bobby Jones are both excellent. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FDFWQY/sr=8-4/qid=1156823419/ref=pd_bbs_4/103-9865460-4859026?ie=UTF8 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FDFVYW/ref=pd_bxgy_text_b/103-9865460-4859026?ie=UTF8 Another good one is "Open" by John Feinstein, an inside look at the staging of the 2002 US Open at Bethpage Black. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0316602574/sr=1-1/qid=1156823627/ref=sr_1_1/103-9865460-4859026?ie=UTF8&s=books Rich

Mike PS: By comparison, Reilly's "Who's your Caddie" is one of the worst I've ever read. I like the non fiction books the best. The fiction about golf gets too stupid too fast, at least for me. I wish I had the time to buy and read all the great non fiction books about golf. Just about every character has a book. If I lived somewhere that had a good library... In any event, a handful of favorites that I have are: The Unsinkable Titanic Thompson Hogan Tin Cup Dreams Every Shot I make

2 that I like are: Hogan's Five Lessons, The Modern Fundamentals of Golf & Dr. Rotella's, Golf is Not a Game of Perfect Video: I like the truth about golf by AJ or something like that. Really simple swing thoughts and good examples. That's funny-- I just got back from the library and while I was not planning on anything in particular, wound up bringing home: Who's Your Caddy? -- Rick Reilly Open -- John Feinstein How to Quit Golf -- Craig Brass (never heard of this one--looks funny) "Matthew" <Gratemgl@aol.com > wrote in message news:1156819648.326973.121720@m73g2000cwd.googlegroups.com... > Hey all - > > I'm looking for some good golf reads. A lot of those are great suggestions. Here are a few more: Any of the "Troon McAllister" Eddie Camineti books (The Green, The Foresome, and a couple of others) Fiction -- I liked the first one (The Green) the best, but the others aren't bad. " The Best Player who Never Lived" (Fiction) -- there's a sequel too about a course that never was, but it's a bit repetitive. "The Bogey Man" (mostly non-fiction) George Plimpton (sportswriter) pretends to be a pro. Nobody mentioned Golf in the Kingdom or Bagger Vance here -- a bit too "new age" for me, but lots of people liked them. That will probably keep you busy until spring. -- Warren Montgomery (wamontgomery@att.net) http://home.att.net/~wamontgomery "Matthew" <Gratemgl@aol.com > wrote in message news:1156865793.713386.174300@i3g2000cwc.googlegroups.com... > Thanks all - I'll be placing an order soon. And it is very good. Skip the sequel. > "The Bogey Man" (mostly non-fiction) George Plimpton (sportswriter) > pretends to be a pro. _The Bogey Man_ is also excellent. gary hayenga

Just read both of Mark Frost's books and enjoyed them quite a bit. "Open" was a very good read, as was "A Good Walk Spoiled". All have quite a bit of detail, which I happen to enjoy. My wife and girls bought me John Daly's and Peter Jacobsen's books for Fathers Day. Peter's stories are quite humerous, but I don't think I got too far into Daly's book. Curt Sampson's book on Hogan was quite good. I thought Tin Cup Dreams (about Esteban Toledo about five years back) was pretty good as well. I'm reading Dobson's book on Hogan right now. Just got started.....
