I say we start one. You get points for playing in RSG sanctioned events ...
kinda like AirMiles. No minimum number of events needed to qualify. Double
points for majors (Ohio, Wisconsin, NW, Cinci?) Discuss.

One more thing. I get 200,000 bonus points for thinking of the idea.

Mighty sporty of you to mention that, my good man!

I've won RSG-ATL, RSG-DFW, RSG-OHIO, RSG-Cincy.
I've also played in (and won) a lot of smaller RSG gatherings like the
Hemmorhoid Classic, the Flame Cup, and a few without official names.
In fact, I believe I am correct in saying that the 2nd RSG-ATL event is
the only one where I didn't shoot (or tie) the low round in the
individual competition. I think I was a bit over-confident that day
since we were playing at Trophy Club where I had shot 67 just a few
weeks before, the first time I ever played it. That was the day that
Pitts and James Taylor tied with 71's and Pitts lost the putt-off (as
usual) for the Coveted Peach Jacket.

Oh yeah, I do remember Sparky beating me at Orchard Hills in one of
Eric's outings, but that wasn't the official tunamint round. BTW, he
kills the ball.
My record in best-ball matches is not quite as stellar, as you know. If
memory serves, I'm 2-1-1. Still better than Stewart-fucking-Cink!

Alas, I've quit the game, for now anyway. As Dandy Don used to say, "I
ain't as good as I used to be .... and I never was."

Oh me oh my, everyone is picking on me...

Get a new schtick Ken, this record was cut when 78's were popular.

My return trip to Detroit from RSG-WI 2005 went through Portugal.
That's gotta count for something! (probably stinkiest car after a week
in the sun at O'Hare).

You'd never show up because you'd be exposed for being a fraud.
You "holier than than" attitude and your endless preaching about all
the "secrets" you've found would be exposed.

And don't speak for others. You speak for yourself only.
If other sheep want to speak up, let them, but this "most of us"
bullshit is tiresome.

Oh, that's it Tex, you're in the running for understatement of the month.
Ironically, the only guy who seems to want to get a room with him IS many
thousand miles away...

Sorry, Larry, but in this case I think you speak for yourself only;
unless, of course, you can produce some hard evidence that you speak for
"most of us". There is an RSG event coming up in Austin in which I
intend to participate and if there is one in North Texas next year I
might well drive up for that. I won't fear for my physical well being
when I do so.

what about those of us who might consider attending an RSG event--
except that we are afraid to be near the RSG nutcases??? I think
some of the regulars here may be certifiable, not ready for polite
company-- I would hate to meet some of them in a dark alley unless I
were carrying a baseball bat or accompanied by a BIG Rottweiler.

so forget "playing in RSG sanctioned events" for most of us--who want
to maintain physical separation of hopefully many thousand miles...

"Those of us"? Name another.

There is no one that has any fear of violence at an RSG event.
However, there's now one who evidently doesn't have the balls to
appear at one to prove his golf prowess.

I'm sure that any RSG tournament host would allow that coward to pick
the group with whom he would play, just to see the numbers he put up.

His loss, our gain.

How dare you use Linux and Excel in the same sentence :)
This would require something more sophisticated....web based, probably
PHP would work...and of course, would require a "web master" to approve
entries, probably submitted by hosts of the events....

Come up with the formula and I can have something ready for Pflum in a
day or two.

I can't see doing this without some sort of database. I could probably whip
up something using PHP and MySQL which integrate nicely with Apache. I'd
volunteer to host it, but my web space doesn't allow dynamic content like
PHP. Does Pflum's?

I host with Go Daddy. Being a web-programming clueless idiot I have

Two events ain't moving him to the top....I've got 2 second places at
RSG NW...and a win at Hershey....And then don't forget Annika, he'll
walk straight to the top if you factor in good performance...

Oops...make that 4 RSG NW event for me, not 3...
== 26 events, 15 majors, 55,700 miles

Now, if you want points for placing, you've got to factor in all the
different formats played....RSG NW is a blended event, you score points
in 'team" play for 2 rounds and then points for single play on the last
day. In other events, it's a single round, mostly Net, but there are
gross winners as well. So do you score points for Net? Gross? Both?

In otherwords, you're opening pandora's box :)

But don't you also have lower placings than 1st and 2nd? Those would be
factored in also to give you a points per event ranking that could be
compared against other RSGers. Yup, I think Bret would probably be up there
also, given what I've read about past events.

Here's an example using RSG-NW:

Say only the top 10 get points and they are allocated as follows:

1 - 100
2 - 75
3 - 50
4 - 40
5 - 30
6 - 25
7 - 20
8 - 15
9 - 10
10 - 5

Tex: T2 (50 + 75) / 2 = 62.5, 2 = 75, T17 = 0, T16 = 0 Total = (62.5 + 75 +
0 + 0) / 4 = 34.375 per event
Thor: T5 (30 + 25) / 2 = 27.5, 9 = 10 Total = (27.5 + 10) / 2 = 18.72 per
event
Patterson: 2 = 75, 1 = 100 Total = (75 + 100) / 2 = 87.5 per event
Newell: 10 = 5, 1 = 100, T9 = (10 + 5) / 2 = 7.5, T7 = (20 + 15) / 2 = 17.5,
19 = 0, 13 = 0 Total = (5 + 100 + 7.5 + 17.5 + 0 + 0) / 6 = 21.67 per event
Ocho: 12 = 0, 1 = 100, 5 = 30, T20 = 0, 22 = 0 Total = (0 + 100 + 30 + 0 +
0) / 5 = 26 per event

I would think in RSG-NW, you start with the guy in 28th place give him a
number of points and so on up to first place, but as far as the whole event
goes, because that's what RSG-NW is. That's the criteria Scott has set out
to identify the best golfer that year. I don't know what formats the other
RSG events are, but do they not have some criteria for ranking all the
golfers for that particular event? Or do they only identify a winner? If
that;s the case, then my system obviously wouldn't work.

Yup. I knew that.

We could keep a separate tally for trolls. Kinda like The Nationwide

I like it! Although do the trolls actually play in RSG events? I don't think
so.

There are a couple of trolls that been to rsg events.

The only reason I'm not naming them is that I don't want to get them started
again.

At times, I'd define Annika as a troll and he occassionally plays in
events.

If you go retro...there are some long timers long since left RSG that
still attend Ohio *and* Hershey (longest running RSG ever)....they'd go
right to the top of the points list...

Thor (still here)
Coops (Hershey host)
Tutleman

Coops goes to each Ohio...as does Tutleman, and Thor rarely (if ever
misses Hershey)...
11 yrs for Ohio, 12 yrs for Hershey...

They may or may not go to the top of the list. Number of events alone
shouldn't dictate ranking ... good performance in the events you attend
should. Bob Patterson has a 1st and 2nd in his 2 RSG-NWs. I don't know what
other events he's played, but he'd be a good bet for RSG #1.

Oh sure, think of this now!
-1,000,000 points for you for being 12 yrs late :)

as of Aug. 22, 2006:
9 Ohio's (1700 miles roundtrip)
5 Hershey's (1900 miles roundtrip)
3 NW's (2900 miles roundtrip)
2 Texas ( ~400 miles...one was in Austin)
2 Cinci's (1500 miles roundtrip)
2 Calif's (2600 miles roundtrip)
1 Scotland (8000 miles roundtrip)
1 Bandon (2700 miles roundtrip)

== 25 events, 14 majors, 52,800 miles

Give or take a little :)

Tex
p.s. Thor might have me on # of events played...I'm sure I've got the

Wrong Tex-breath. Are you counting the one you hosted at Woodbridge ?
Then there's the one I hosted later (even though you were a no-show
at Tour 18). That's three for you in Texas.

You left out RSG-ATLANTA. That's another 3,000 miles roundtrip.

My hat's off to you, Tex. That's some serious commitment to playing golf
with fellow RSG'ers. Don't know if that means you're a glutton for
punishment or just completely eaten up with a love for the gemme regardless
of the cost involved. I suspect it's a little of both.

Sounds like a great idea. My only thought is could you "pad" your
points playing like crap but attending a whole bunch of events?

Of course, we'd need some web site guru to set up a web page where we
could enter our scores and track the standings. I'd be happy to host
it if someone wants to do the hard work.

Not all events have tournaments. In fact, I believe that I was the
first
to have an actual tournament and trophy at RSG-Ohio. The rest
are just copycats :-)

But still, RSG-Pitt never has a tournament. Hershey didn't in the
earlier years. The earlier events like RSG-NC, etc did not have
tourneys.

I haven't done too well, but I have won 2 Hershey, 1 Wisconsin, and 1
Cinci.

Lessee,

10 Ohio
9 Pittsburgh
8 Hershey
6 Cinci
4 Wisconsin
3 Fripp
2 NW
1 NC
1 Scotland
1 Texas
0 Bandon [IDIOT!]

That is 45 events. I dunno how many miles, but not as many as Tex.

Plus - I started (and host) RSG-Ohio, and I initiated the first RSG-WI
and
RSG-Pittsburgh.

I humbly bow to Tex and Thor on number of events, but when you consider
that I just took up golf in Nov 2001, I think I'm doing alright on the
Sayitagin RSG World Rankings:

3 RSG - Schmasters (1st Rsg event March 2002 as a 32!)
RSG - Atl 2002
4 - RSG Cinci + 1 skinny cinci
3 RSG OH (hopefully a 4th this year, not sure yet)
2 RSG WI
1 RSG DFW
2-3 Hammerfests (flame cup, hemmeroid etc)
1 RSG StL
1 RSG NW

Ok, with R&B's reminder and Kniggets input, here's the revised list:
as of Aug. 23, 2006:

9 Ohio's (1700 miles roundtrip)
5 Hershey's (1900 miles roundtrip)
4 NW's (2900 miles roundtrip)
3 Texas ( ~400 miles...one was in Austin)
2 Cinci's (1500 miles roundtrip)
2 Calif's (2600 miles roundtrip)
1 Atlanta (1000 miles roundtrip)
1 Scotland (8000 miles roundtrip)
1 Bandon (2700 miles roundtrip)

== 28 events, 15 majors, 56,700 miles

And I'll bet I've got the number of RSG Hershey events wrong too...and
I'm going to Ohio this year, so that will be 10 Ohio's, 29 events, 16
majors and 58,400 miles.

Tex

7 Ohios (#7 this year) - @ 500miles- 3500
3 Cinci's @ 550miles - 1650
1 Wis - 1000
1NW - 3000
1 Bandon - 3800
1 Scotland - 7800

14 Events, 12 Majors*, 20,750miles in 7 years.

Nowhere near Tex in #tournaments or #miles, but same enthusiasm to
travel and play.

David
*Counting Ohio, Cinci, Wis and NW as Majors.

Bring it on!!!!!

I think you're just trying to tie Tex for most miles traveled.

I think I'm pretty much up there in # of events, mid 30's, but pretty
far down in miles.

The one that started it all, rsg-greensboro in '96 = 1
All but the 2nd Ohio = 9
All the Pittsburghs = 9? 10? 11?
Hersheys = 5 or 6
Fripps = 3 or 4
Cincy = 2
Calif = 1 (assuming Tex is counting the Pebble round)
Scotland = 1 (should count extra)
Bandon = 1

I really hope so too, I'll know when I get my amended taxes done, if I can't
figure out a way to pay Unc, S not K, less than it is Mac n' cheese and
local golf (I define local as within 2-3 hrs drive, have truck will
travel!).

I wasn't counting that :) add one more for me..and another 3000 miles.
I guess I could throw in another Pebble round as well, when I flew out
to CA for our "freebie" at Pebble with Dan King, Patsy and Mike (thanks
again Mike...great letter!).

The other CA RSG trips were for events Dan King put together...

Maybe you should ask the host??? :-)
Actually, I think we decided it started in 97, so this year was the
10th... maybe.

Anyway, didn't you miss one? The year we went to Scotland?

Yeah but we had one or two extra in the fall. And the year we went to
Scotland I came down for Lindenwood but skipped Butlers and Cedarbrook.
So that still counts.

I've also had Metz, Super and Coops come to pittsburgh for a Cap Match,
driven to Eaglesticks to play with you and Pete and ????. Also drove to
Eaglesticks this year to play with Super, Hudson and Neal Bell. What
about the time you and Joe Dean met me somewhere in Ohio? And the time
I played with Scott on a Pasco trip?
