The same could be said about Hillary in her desire to appeal to the independents. Interesting that McCain has to make compromises in order to get help him get nominated and Hillary is doing the same thing to help her get elected.

That's a ridiculous characterization of him, but I really doubt he'll get the nomination because of his health issues. He looks like Casper the Friendly Ghost.

He has got to be on of the most unlucky guys on the planet. He was shot down over Vietnam and spent years in a brutal POW camp. BUT before that he almost single-handedly sank his own aircraft carrier (The Oriscanny) when his plane fired a missile while parked on the deck that ignited a blaze that almost overtook the entire ship. A Zuni off an F-4 hit McCain's Skyhawk. Then McCain isn't incompetent as his plane was hit by the missile. Incompetent is making snide remarks about a true American hero based on what you read in RSG without verifying with a second source. <zipper40hDIESPAMMERS@netscape.net > wrote in message news:7h8hl2hsh9gpgs01asrfisoe7kkavqb1q8@4ax.com... > Firing a missile into your own ship? As are Duke Cunningham, John Kerry and Murtha.

Duke Cunningham is a great example that shows winning medals has nothing to do with intelligence or integrity. I guess there are worse reasons for electing people to high office than being a war hero --- being a movie star comes immediately to mind --- but I really wish that there were a way to select people based on their intelligence and knowledge. McCain was a great POW, but he is not very smart, and he has rolled over for Bush more times than Barney.

What it takes to be a war hero and what it takes to be an effective President are not always the same thing.

Murtha was involved in ABSCAM. He didn't take the bribe, but he didn't report the attempt either, even though he was on the ethics committee. Judgement call, I guess.

Actually, what McCain did was pretty egregious. He took more direct money ($112K) from Keating than the other four; and McCain's wife paid Keating like $350K for some shopping center as well; a year before Keating met with the investigators. McCain said "''I was judged eventually, after three years, of using poor judgment, and I agree with that assessment.'' I think what he did is worse than just using poor judgement. -- ___________________________________________________________ A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. -- Thomas Jefferson

The guy has been running for president the last 12 years or so. Of course, he's running again. His latest announcement about forming a "presidential exploratory committee" is hogwash. What's there to explore. He should be used to this by now. He has been running during the last 3 or 4 presidential elections.
