Even Bill O'Reilly says it's obvious that Kerry was talking about Bush, but straight-talking John McCain says that after repeatedly reading and viewing Kerry's statement, he doesn't see how it can be construed any other way than Kerry meaning that all soldiers are stupid. I hope all the Dems and Inds who thought that McCain was somehow different from other Republicans will remember this. I have never thought McCain was very smart, but I did think he had a bit of decency. This latest shows he is right up there with Santorum, Bush, and Cheney, who will say absolutely anything to score points with their base, even when they know they are lying, and even when they know most of the country knows they are lying.

Kerry was a senator, never a congressman, by the way. And if Kerry actually did get a dishonorable discharge, are we to believe that no one but Kerry knew about it? The fact is that dozens of people would have known about it, and the paper trail would have been a mile long. Yet not a single person has come forward to talk about it. Winter Soldier extended the war? What in the world are you talking about? The war (specifically, US involvement on the ground) was already winding down by then -- 1971. It was over for the US two years later. Are you trying to tell us it would have been over sooner if not for Winter Soldier? What are you smoking? Doug Reese > Larry

Kerry makes an ill-considered remark and Republicans go absolutely ballistic. Now what's that all about? It's yet another straw man they can use to deflect attention from their record of coruption and failure. Just like gay marriage and flag-burning. Every Republican that's castigating Kerry ought to be thanking him at the same time.

You propose a paradox about Kerry. You suggest he's a tiny man, insignificant in history yet you suggest that he's so powerful that he influenced North Vietnam to shift their war strategy. Get your facts straight, if it's at all possible. Don't blame Kerry for a war he didn't start, tried to stop and fought in. You have no shame.

Larry, you are the last person in the world to talk about education and class, especially if it is to cast aspersions on those qualities in others. OK, so your latest tack is to try to make out that no one else knows how to debate, as if you do. You don't, and I speak as one with a great deal more formal experience in that arena than you. No, you won't stop clicking on my posts, because you are drawn to them lie a moth to a lamp, and you will not be able to bear the thought that I am getting a free ride to say what I want about your 'postings'.. However, you do need a get out, so that you don;t have to answer/withdraw every time you are caught in one of your outrageous lies. So if this is it, then go for it. The world will be a better place if you simply withdraw altogether. And if your life is so pathetically sad that you think that claiming credit for the OT garbage you insist on posting, then I really do feel sorry for you. William Clark William Clark

Hopefully the Dems and Reps can come up with something new and better than they have been. And thanks for noting that with a congress in the opposite party made for better gov't. If we haven't learned anything else in the last 6 years, hopefully we've learned that neither party needs to be in total control. Implicit in the makeup of our Federal gov't is the idea of compromise in this representative republic (note: not democracy ) is the idea that we should be able to find middle ground. When one party is in total control and can effectively ignore the other party position, we get what we have now. A non-conservative Republican gov't. And thanks to their willingness to show their entire color schema, we know that it isn't what we want. Or at least, I think that is what will happen next Tuesday.

It's difficult for a president to veto spending bills full of pork for the congressmen from his own party who he depends on to vote for his legislative agenda.

Honestly, do you really think Kerry would intentionally insult military personnel either in earnest or as a joke? The premise that he tried to do that is absurd (contrary to Larry's suggestion, Kerry is not stupid). What would he gain from doing so? What is fact is that Kerry has consistently attacked Bush's policies (some of his attacks may not be consistent though). Connect the dots: they're not too far apart with this "issue". If you ever find yourself agreeing with dittohead Larry, question your reasoning. Regarding ideas and intelligent discourse, Whittaker's the lead standard. And that's a fact.

Doug, there is nobody better at correcting the babble of John Kerry bashers than you, and I appreciate your efforts to try to impose the truth on losers like LLLarry who, like all of his ilk, speak from right wing talking points. Here is an excerpt from a letter to the editor of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette which appeared Sat, Nov 11, 2006 (Veterans Day - of all things!!!) After completely distorting Kerry's remarks to implement his own agenda vis a vis the "stupidity" of the troops, the writer one, Victor K. Kreczkosiej, writes, "...As for the senator's apology, it is as phony as he is. Sen. Kerry's picture hangs in a place of honor in the Vietnamese communists' War Remnants Museum as one of those responsible for the defeat of the U.S military. That in itself tells me all I need to know about Sen. Kerry..." At the risk of being presumptuous, Doug, I wonder if you could shed the light of truth on another who parrots the line of the right wing nuts who apparently speak with one voice. I, myself, would (and still might) write a rebuttal, but I do not have the facts nor the eloquence to state the case for the truth as you have repeatedly shown here with your handling of the tripe that LLLarry posts. The email address is: letters@post-gazette.com if you are so inclined. At any rate, thanks for your voice in sticking up for a man who DID serve the country honorably.

In most newspapers, the Letters to the Editors column is often totally disconnected from reality. One of the New York Times clones continued to publish letters about the Bush administration contradicting one of their news stories for months after the story was published. Lies About Kerry In response to the Nov 11 letter from V. K. Hreczkosiej (Phony Kerry) . . . . . . As with many who don't like the Senator from Massachusetts, Mr. Hreczkosiej, probably unknowingly, has managed to promote one of the many lies about him. Mr. Hreczkosiej says "Sen. Kerry's picture hangs in a place of honor in the Vietnamese communists' War Remnants Museum as one of those responsible for the defeat of the U.S. military. " That statement is false. The only thing true about it is that there is a photo of John Kerry in that museum. If John Kerry were being honored, don't you think they would name him, or show a photo of him protesting the war, or at least put his photo in a place where they were honoring people who protested the war? The fact is, that museum did none of those things. What they did was take a photo of a "congressman" who was visiting Vietnam to investigate the POW/MIA issue, and placed it on a wall dedicated to photos of various world government officials, veterans groups, and humanitarian efforts. Familiar names of some of those up there with Kerry are Warren Christopher, Robert McNamara, FedEx and Admiral Elmo Zumwalt. For those of you who haven't heard of Admiral Zumwalt, he was the commander of U.S. Naval forces when Kerry was in Vietnam. I served with John Kerry in Vietnam. I know firsthand how his service during the war has been lied about or misrepresented. This is an unfortunate extension of those lies.

That's too bad. I'd be willing to wager $10K/round of golf against him. I don't need the money, but I'd be pleased to take his.

If I bought you for what you're worth and sold you for what you think > you're worth I'd be richer than Bill Gates! :-P Larry finally made it worth my while (because it would be sufficiently funny to embarrass him if my suspicions are true), so I did a little digging. Larry's business: Del Mar Data? It's website gives its address as: "Del Mar Data POB 1638 7671 La Brisa Road Rancho Santa Fe, CA 92067" Only, as far as I could determine, there is no 7671 La Brisa Road. The numbers on La Brisa -- a purely high-rent residential street, only run from 17000 to about 17600; making it impossible for it to have been a typo either. So I poke around some more. The telephone number for Del Mar Data, is also listed as the home number of one Larry Whitaker, whose address happens to be listed as: "PO Box 1638 Rancho Santa Fe, CA 92067-1638 (858) 759-7411" Now, how many "buy and sell you" kind of people do you know whose business and home numbers are the same? How many do you know who don't have an unlisted number? Interestingly, there is an "Avenida Brisa" which is located right at the Morgan Run Resort and Golf Club, but once again, the highest number that Google Maps knows about is 4099. And besides, the houses on that street aren't the kind a "buy and sell you" sort of guy would be living in. If I had to guess, I'd say that Larry lives in one of the 1500 - 2500 sq. ft. houses to be found on the Avenida Brisa, but lists his business address on La Brisa Road because those *are* the sorts of places a "buy and sell you kind of guy might want to live, and with any luck, he can convince anyone who checks into it that he's a "buy and sell you" kind of guy. Want more proof? What guy who can "buy and sell you" has as the only contact person listed for his business: his own name. My dad isn't really "buy and sell you rich"; at least, not unless earning something around very low seven figures a year from a business he owns 90% of makes you one, but if you look at <http://www.factorforms.com/ > you don't see his name anywhere. Anyway, it just kind of struck me, that's all. <g > -- 'It is Mac OS X, not BSD.' -- 'From Mac OS to BSD Unix.' "It's BSD Unix with Apple's APIs and GUI on top of it' -- 'nothing but BSD Unix' (Edwin on Mac OS X) '[The IBM PC] could boot multiple OS, such as DOS, C/PM, GEM, etc.' -- 'I claimed nothing about GEM other than it was available software for the IBM PC.
