Subject: OB - The Pause That Refreshes

Was playing yesterday on a short/tight course with pretty difficult greens.
I was doing nothing hugely wrong (other than poor putting) but absolutely
nothing right either. I hit only two greens on the front, and didn't make a
putt over 2' long (other than the 4' bogey putt that came after hitting a 8'
par putt about 12').

I was 8 over after 9 holes. Hole #10 is a very difficult par 4, sharply
dogleg left, OB tight to the right, woods to the left, and hugely sloping
R-L fairway (once you are past the dogleg). For me this hole typically plays
a 23* hybrid to the dogleg, same club to the green. Just for grins I took a
5W off the tee and hit a perfect draw around the corner leaving me a 5i to
the front (I hit 26* hybrid - rear pin). Despite the ball being way the hell
above my feet I pushed it OB.

So basically I am now 10 over par with 8.75 holes to play. From that point
foward I didn't miss a green and (despite missing a 4' birdie putt) played
the last 8.75 holes in 2 under.

Like I said - the pause that refreshes.

Kinda like popping that big ugly zit on your forhead as a youth. Once
you get all the bad stuff out, the rest goes pretty well.

Nice second nine, Dave, and sorry for the metaphor.

Actually I kinda' like that metaphor. And I may well be onto something here.
The following is the honest truth.

I played the same course again today. I missed a 4' par putt on the first
hole and a 5' par putt on the second hole. Then I pumped a ball off the tee
on the par 4 3rd hole OB (my norm is a ball OB every 3rd or 4th round). So
for all practical purposes I'm standing on the 3rd tee four over par. I
played even par golf from that point forward.

The next time I play this course maybe I should pump a ball OB on the first
tee :-)
