Subject: My new driver - Comparing TM 580 and TH R7 460

My personal unscientific review to follow;

Just picked up a Taylor Made R7 460 at a really good price, so I took
out my TM 580 yesterday for the first time.

Firstly, the clubs are basically identical, in both are 9.5, stiff
shaft. As you look at them, you see the head on the 460 is
considerably bigger (I think 400cc to 460cc?). The shaft is about
1/2" shorter on the 460. (I was a little surprised at that, since both
are stock..)

The 460 retails for $399, and has those moveable weights, so I figured
I'd see a huge difference with the clubs.

I guess the two reasons that we try to improve our games with
technology is to hit it straighter and longer...

I would have to say, tat if I were to have paid retail for the club,
it would be headed back to the store. It is no longer or forgiving
than my old 580 is...

It will stay in the bag, but I'm not putting the 580 out to pasture
for good yet......

YMMV

One thing that leaves me feeling slightly uneasy about clubs that are
weighted to 'cure' a hook or slice is that the basic swing fault that is
causing the problem is still present for all the other clubs in the bag.
