Subject: Lord Byron's Amazing Run

On the CNN website, there is an article which chronicles Byron
Nelson's amazing victory run. Anyone who feels the need to
rationalize it by saying that the fields were weakened due to the war
need to read this article.

Byron Nelson virutally quit playing golf at the pinnacle ofhis
career. Had he kept on playing, there is not telling what records he
may have ended up setting.

The thing that I found most interesting was the conditions that they
had to play under and how the prize money was paid out. Had Nelson
been playing today and winning as often, he would not have had his
wife had to say things like this:

---"Byron, we've been married for over a year, and during that time I
haven't bought a new dress or a new pair of shoes.
But you've bought four new drivers, and you're not happy with any of
them. One of two things: Either you don't know what kind of driver you
want or you don't know how to drive.''---

Well, we have all heard something similar to this, of course :-)
However, he was winning tournaments, a lot of them, and had to keep on
winning if he wanted to pay the bills. Today, some golfer wins one
tournament and has a few top ten finishes in his entire career and is
set for life.

Byron Nelson will be missed for many reasons, but he will be
remembered for those same reasons. He was a huge asset to the game of
golf and perhaps the greatest who ever played the game.
