Sorry for posting on a topic that may have been addressed previously but I have been unable to find any results throught google. Does anyone have an opinion/information on the Jack Nicklaus head tilt at setup? In other words, how do you feel about looking at the ball with your left eye during the set up? Recently I've been trying to take the club back on an inside plane in order to correct a slight OTT move and I was wondering if the left eye technique would aid this in any way. Thanks.

He said that he's never met a guy that knew more about the golf swing in conjunction with the way the human body works. They talked about this subject, and Mac O believes that the eyes should be equidistant from the ball so your binocular vision works it's best. He also believes that the head should be angled so that your eyeballs are centered in their sockets when addressing the ball. I don't have any more details since I didn't go to the class.

equidistant and angled, in conjunction, is a little ambiguous. I don't get the rationale, just focus the eyes on the ball, and strike it squarely. >m h o >=A0v =83e >=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0u s o - until everyone comes home

Jack Nicklaus is left eye dominant. He is also color-blind. He has explained the head tilt helps him focus with his dominant eye and also helps him make a full turn. Its all about the full turn. You gain an extra 10-15% in distance by turning your head without loss of accuracy, simply because it allows your shoulders to turn further without knocking your head off axis. It does require a little practice, though. Like everything else. -PA Da Ringer wrote: > Jack Nicklaus is left eye dominant. By sheer coincidence I am also color blind. I'm not sure about the whole left eye dominant phenomena however. Are you referring to clearer vision in the left eye?

keep both eyes on the ball until after impact, drop both hands *straight* down at the *very* beginning of the downswing, now, let's see you come over the top, forget jackie boy, he's history. btw, you are to strike the ball squarely on the sweet spot. get it all together, and remember where you put it.:--) >m h o >=A0v =83e >=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0u s o - until everyone comes home

Drive average 280 without head turn, 310 with. YMMV. I can't get good tension between the shoulders and hips without a little more turn. -PA

According to Nicklaus himself, who explains this in his book Golf My Way, the head tilt was a result of him being left-eye dominant, which is about as common as left-handedness. It was a way for him to get his dominant eye behind the ball.
