Got out for my last round of the year today. Interesting year all told, especially today. Forgot my putter at home - had to borrow playing partner's. Oops. Holed a double-hit chip. Actually, I was trying to blade it from up against the collar, it hopped straight up and I caught it again, but it rolled right in the centre. A different way to get it up and down, I guess. Lipped out a chip for bogey on 8 and holed a 40 footer for double on 14. Ended up with an 82 on the 74.2/143 Forest City National track, which is not all that bad considering I've been battling a sinus infection for the past two weeks and had prepared for the round by spending those two weeks lying on the couch. One lonely birdie on 10 with an up and down that made it worthwhile heading out there. And the last swing of the year was a beautiful high 4-iron, err wedge from 200 yards that went right over the stick. 2006 stats: First round: April 16 Last round: 10 Total rounds: 18 Index at start of year: 3.1 Index at end of year: 2.5 (lost a -0.9 diff today so it went from 2.0) Low score: 72 (1.2 diff) High score: 87 (10.1 diff) I got new irons before the year began and still don't feel completely comfortable with them. Went from the crazy off-set Dynacraft DFS irons to the much less off-set Wishon 752tc irons. Still not completely used to having less off-set (had Ping Eye 2s for 10 years before the DFSs). Found the ball went higher and I had more weak flares to the right than I had in the past. Something that will come around, I'm sure. I'll probably go back to the clubmaker over the winter and do a little tinkering with them, at least make sure they're still a good fit for me. They also have shafts that are about a quarter to a half inch longer than what I had before and I hit a lot more fat shots than I ever had in the past. Overall, I'm relatively pleased with the year. Considering how little I play and that I never practise (saw the range maybe 4 times this year), I still manage to play some decent golf on occasion. Just sad to see another golf season end.
