They've won 3 str8 and 5 of the last 6 RCs. And the last two were
cakewalks, as George Bush would say. I don't want to hear any more of
this "fluke" talk.

I don't think there can be much of an argument left that the European
team and players are better at 4 ball and alternate shot play than the
American team. Of course, there are just 3 days each year when the US
professionals play in that format (Ryder and President's Cups), and
only 3 days every two years that the Europeans do (Ryder Cup), so I
don't know what additional conclusions beyond that anyone can really
make.

What makes me laugh a little is when European players who have never
won a major golf title claim that winning the Ryder Cup is more
important to them than winning a major...which is a little like taking
a look at your wife and then a photo of Halle Berry and saying that
"making whoopee with my wife is more enjoyable than it would be with
Halle."

Please.

Do both, and then you may have some credibility when you tell us which
one is more important to you. TIger, Phil, Furyk, Toms, Olazabel, and
few others can make that comparison, but Colin and Sergio and Darren
cannot...

Gosh, you're really struggling with this thing, aren't you? I would not
have thought that any American would have had that much difficulty
coping with the result of a GAME.

Oh, well.

I guess humiliation brings a desperate need for excuses and
justifications.

A clearer illustration of the difference in values between Europe and
the US there has not been.

The last time I checked, one-on-one match play accounts for just 1/3 of
the matches played in the Ryder Cup / Presidents Cup, and those are
just 18 hole matches, to boot....not a 36 hole match play grind like
Paul Casey just won two weeks ago.

Certainly you can see the difference...if you really wanted to.

48 weeks a year, members of the PGA tour play 72-hole stroke play
events and nearly 98% of all the world ranking points are gathered
during these events. So why should anyone put much weight on these
rankings when a different format (like Match Play or team formats like
in the Ryder Cup) is played?

I think the big question is why Americans ever won that many Cups in a
row, and why anyone should really be surprised when they don't...

3 of the 4 majors are played in america. Golfers from spain or italy
or sweden or germany never play a home major in their entire career.
Of course they don't place the same emphasis on majors that americans
do.

Nah, I mean the REAL World Match Play event, at Wentworth

(but that's another one that Cal thinks isn't match play!)

..and head to head.

We can conclude that the World Match Play isn't a match play format,
apparently?

Indeed, you wouldn't want that "love" thing in your life.

But looking pretty isn't a guarantee of good action...

Besides, if you're talking about the WGC Match Play in the USA, neither
an American nor a European won it anyway. ;-)
