Subject: Its nice to have the irons back...

I've been struggling all year with full-swing iron shots. Kept hitting
them fat. Pitching was marginal and chipping was fine.

I was playing MacGregor 565 forged irons, regular shaft and little
offset.

Then I got the chance to play some Callaway Big Bertha irons, lite shaft
and offset quite a bit. Wow! I played 18 with just those irons, no
woods, so I could get a chance to try every iron in the bag. While I
did have problems with the 3 & 4 irons off the deck, everything else was
working fine. Used the 3 & 4 off tees for my drives and was straight
and effective with them.

So I traded my MacGregors for the Callaways. So far, about 2-3 weeks,
they are making a huge difference in the quality, if not the score, of
my game. When the woods are just not working for me on a particular day
or part of a day, I can just start using the irons. That just wasn't
possible earlier.

Scoring is still a century, but it is more stable. Where I used to
shoot most rounds at 100-102, I was also getting really bad rounds of
105+. That isn't happening now. Highest score I've done since the
switch was 102, lowest was 92. A bit more work on my chipping and
putting should both lower that and narrow the score range.
