I think the cops have probably heard every excuse and snob story under the
sun and so I doubt the efficacy of any such tactics. It just really boils
down to the cop giving the ticket; his mood, status of his quota, time of
day, the phase of the moon, etc, etc, etc.

Didn't cry, but when I totally blew through a red light (like, red for
3 seconds) I got pulled over.
I had a 2yr old and a newborn at home, and I must have looked half
asleep/dead after work that day. Fortunately, the cop saw the "little
tikes" box in my front seat. He asked "you know why I pulled you over?"
I know, I know I just blew that light, I just wanted to get home to
give my son his present. The cop was nice enough to let me go with a
warning, "be careful and get some sleep, would 'ya?" OK THANKS
OFFICER!

Whew, not too swift.

times...

Never cried. But young females do get preferential treatment.
My daughter has been pulled over 4 times, but never given
a ticket.

I've been pulled over twice while driving with her as a
passenger, and got off with warnings.

Otherwise, they give me a ticket every time they pull me
over.

Yeh, you could have hit a car with 2 kids in it, on their way home
from daycare.
If you're that tired, or stupid, you shouldn't be driving.Maybe you'll
get broadsided by a fool like you someday, like I once did, and you
won't think your story is so cute.
If you're that tired - don't drive.

cripes! there's one in every crowd...he said he "must have looked half
asleep/dead" that's all. He wasn't going to kill anyone. Find another
bandwagon to get on today or maybe even do something useful

One of my character flaws is that I like to drive faster than the
posted limit. I tend to drive at a speed that feels "natural" based on
time of day, amount of traffic, weather and/or length of trip. That
speed tends to be 10 to 20 mph over the posted speed on high traffic
roads. If I'm going through someone's neighborhood I behave. On longer
trips (over 3 hours) I might go even higher, but usually only if I can
find someone to follow about 1/2 a mile behind who will get the ticket.

I also know that if I drive like that a majority of the time, I'm going
to get snared once every few years and I'm prepared to be polite to the
officer, pay my fine and if I get points against my license then I have
to take it a little easier for the next year. I also know that I'm
going to hear it from my wife for a while.

I have relatives in law enforcement. They tell me the biggest factor is
the drivers attitude.
As somone else said, they have heard and seen most everything at least
once. Frequently, they are tired from long hours and aren't in the mood
for any "junk". If you are polite, calm, and respectful your chances of
getting off easy much better.

That's always been my experience, too. Give them an "I know I screwed
up here officer. I'm sorry. I'll try not to do that again." Works
every time for me. Well, okay, one time it didn't, but that's another
story...

Point taken, but let me rephrase....by high traffic I mean larger
roads, not necessarily that there's a lot of traffic. When there's a
lot of traffic, you can't speed and have to drive at the same speed as
everyone else. But point still taken.

No prob. The highest speed limits around here on the freeways and
toll roads, is 70. They don't even worry about anything under that,
so I stick it on 68-69, and love it for the faster guys to pass me.

Bullshit, drink some coffee. Blowing a red light by over 3 seconds is
inexcusable. Just getting out of the car to buy some coffee is enough
to start waking up.

Whoa! This from someone who just posted that his "speed tends to be
10 to 20 mph over the posted speed on high traffic roads."

I agree that running a red light by 3 seconds, and driving while
sleepy, is inexcusable,

10-20 mph (and more at times) over the speed limit on high traffic
roads is pretty dangerous too.

Here in Atl, going any slower will get you run over!

A "gimme" can best be defined as an agreement between
two golfers neither of whom can putt very well.

Okay, you're right!! How silly of me. I'll just call work
and tell them I'm "too tired to drive to work" because my newborn was
screaming til 4 am
and my wife was in excruciating pain from Sciatica, so I was doing all
the laundry, cooking etc.
(sleep was a fantasy/luxury in those days)

Maybe you want to donate your "personal days" to help me out, I get
ZERO!

Then I could have slept at the office after a stressful day, and told
my wife I was too tired to drive
home.

Drunk Driving is inexcusable, Sleepy Driving is just an unfortunate
reality.

You've Never driven ANYWHERE but when you were bright eyed & bushy
tailed
eh Pete? Gimme a break, would you?
