Hi Folks,

Thought you might be interested, I've put together a Google Map site of
all scottish Golf Courses at
http://www.greenan-golf-tours.co.uk/scottish-golf-map.html

So far it has the east coast and central belt covered in little flags,
I'm adding the rest in daily.

Some of the courses are in places where google maps have very high
resolution, so you can click the links on the left hand side to zoom
right into the course and see the lay of the land and the bunkers etc.

I've also added course descriptions, Par, SSS and a link to the golf
course's own website.

Kind Regards

That's a great idea, once I've completed the static maps, I'll
transfrom the placemarks into Google Earth format and put it onto the
page too.

Thanks!

Oops, I've been ticked off for posting an unsolicited advert to this
group.

Apologies for any offence caused, it was my intention to share the
resource.

Does this advertisement ban apply across the board or is it ever OK to
post?

Thanks

Dear Colm,

RSG is an unusual, unmoderated, catch basin of contradictory acts.

Here's the 'official' rules:

http://ttsoft.com/thor/rsggolf.html

Note this line in particular;

"It is considered abuse to post off topic, commercial or advertising
messages to a newsgroup whose FAQ or charter prohibit such posts."

While one would think that all three objects in the above sentence are
treated equally, you need to remember that this is RSG. RSG is run
quite differently.

"Off topic posts" are not treated the same as the other identified
nasties. Apparently there is a difference (shrugging shoulders).

No vows have been taken, to take those off topic posts to the
'appropriate newsgroups' (and there are many to post those off topic
posts in), just the vow to seek out and destroy, report, hound,
badger...those who sail by and throw something into this 'land',
anything that may be considered 'commercial' in some way.

The lot here tends to get bored easily and gets politically charged
up, with lines drawn and sides chosen to throw keyboard commando barbs
back and forth to the chagrin of anyone having read the (ahem)
"charter".

In other words..the "charter" is basically worthless.

The newsgroup needed a "charter", but it is not followed at all.
Outsiders are "attacked" for indiscretions, "insiders", committing the
same "violation"..well, that's just overlooked, a lot.

Condoning one portion of what is considered an "offence", while acting
like a heat seeking missile on another, identified, "offence", is the
twisted logic you see, and possibly experienced.

In short..and albeit a little confusing, here are the "rules";

* you can post all the political off topic posts you wish, regardless
of that post being non-golf and about as off topic as you can get, as
well as basically being against the 'charter',

* you can assassinate the character of your evil (real or pretend)
nemesis, all you want, the hell with any Usenet, Internet etiquette,

* but, don't you DARE..post anything that is considered 'commercial'
in any way, shape or form. BAD!

Some here have sworn; made a pact; kneed to a knightly vow, sealed
with their own blood, an oath to seek out and destroy those who do not
follow "that" portion of the realm rules.

Hope this helps, enjoy. ;-)
