Wow, yesterday was a beautiful day to play. With the exception of the very gusty wind. It really changed the play and keeping the ball low didn't help as much as I expected because the winds were all over the place. I had never seen the wind nearly push the ball 90 degrees before! If I had hair, I would have looked very windblown! ;-)

Agreed. It takes any thoughts of grandure out of your head and allows you to focus on hitting as straight as possible. While it can be hectic, I like it, too. Water hazards that aren't generally a problem became a real issue as drives were either shorter or longer (or crooked! <G >) than usual making second shots from places I usually never am at. Still shot a 49, which is my usual, but it was a hardfought 49! For info, the group I play with is an older group and we walk 9 every day. Sometimes I stick around and get the back 9, sometimes not. Yesterday was not...

The wind can be strong enough here that it pushes some of those downhill slopes over the edge. This morning we had two greens that were basically unputtable, because the 20-30Mph wind was blowing straight downhill and nothing would stay within 30 feet of the hole location. Local rule for that situation is just to take a stab or two at it, then pick up and move on, but I don't know how you would ever finish if you insisted on holing out. -- Warren Montgomery (wamontgomery@att.net) http://home.att.net/~wamontgomery

Agreed, with the caveat that the course needs to have some room to miss. Playing Pete Dye-inspired target golf courses with OB and water hazards everywhere in high wind is no fun. -- Chris Bellomy C-List Charter Member http://clist.org/

Keep a stocking cap over your ears in wind like that, you can do some real damage. The scots say "nay wind nay golf" and it certainly adds a fun element. Windy days like that though are brutal. Heck, I was in shorts and short sleeve shirt! Somewhere in the high 60's yesterday. Today, no wind but a bit of passing rain and down in the 50's. Good day to roast some coffee! ;-)

Shot #2 had a wind gust so strong that it sent my hat flying & knocked me off balance - which resulted in my new Pro V-1 failing in its first swim attempt. Shot #4 I decided I best play the wind & aimed for the left greenside bunker -- you guessed it --- it buried in the back face of it. Shot #5 got the ball on the level area of the bunker. Shot #6 was on the green for my 2 putt 8 === Hole #2 consisted of more of the same except for the 3rd shot had so many leaves blowing over my ball that it was simply funny to even think I could make the shot -- A double bogey followed before I got my act together for the rest of the round. End result was a 45. Oddly -- On Saturday the conditions were similar (except the leaves were still mostly on the trees) & I shot a very comfortable 39. Go figure.

The wind sort of makes those hybrids useless don't it?
