OK, I know I've posted this thing for about the past three years, but we get
new readers coming and going every year.

Any idea what in the world "Glory's Last Shot" is supposed to mean? I know
it's the PGA's semi-official slogan for the tournament, but it doesn't make
a whole lot of sense. If they said "A Last Shot at Glory", I could see that
one.

Maybe there's some sort of history associated with it? I've mailed the PGA
themselves to ask, but never got a reply.

Thanks for any wisdom here.

No, that would be "Last shot at the Glory Hole."

The reason that the PGA calls it "Glory's last Shot" is because it's
the final Major of the year and Jack told them that the other
tournaments don't matter.

I could get this if the wording made sense - like "A Last Shot at Glory".
But I may just have to resign myself to the answer being "Nothing - it's
just stupid".

I suppose if Jack Bauer told 'em, they damn well better listen.

I think you've just answered your own question.

It is like many other marketing slogans that have come and gone...like...

Coke is It (Coke is WHAT?)
McDonalds, We Do it All for You (You do WHAT for me? Cook burgers that
will kill me?)
Like a Good Neighbor, State Farm is There (State Farm is where? Peeping
through my windows?)
Enco (later Exxon), Put a Tiger in Your Tank (No comment necessary.)

The list is very long.

But hey, if you remember it, then it must work. Have you thought of that?
Isn't that what a marketing slogan is for...to make the brand name more
memorable?

Last major of the year, phrased like a marketing weasel would like.

I'd like to think it's something less dumb than that, because that phrasing
totally changes the meaning - as in "Glory's last shot at _what_?"

Think of Glory firing a pistol or something, it makes slightly
better sense. But only slightly.

Naturally, my mind goes to something more pornographic than that.
I'm sorta surprised that a certain poster from Tennessee hasn't
already gone there...

That is almost word for word, what I thought. I must have read your post
last year. : -)
