I played this research-sponsored course in Southern Talladega County Friday
after Thanksgiving. Granted the weather was perfect and my companions were
better golfers, but I had a great time.

For $100 greens fee, I enjoyed a nearly perfectly maintained course with
merely a few groups playing. Warm up balls on a nice targeted range, a
chipping green, and practice green followed by a 4 hour round in the
delightful Central Alabama rolling hills. The non-alcohol drinks and snacks
from the cart lady were included as was a delicious post round lunch of
chicken cordon bleu. Replays were also included but I had to leave after 18.

It is not part of the RT Jones golf circuit, and was designed by a no name
outfit from Nebraska, is operated by a fertilizer company with a partnership
with Toro and Club Car; but I will be back.

Each fairway had a different variety of grass, the greens were poa annua and
fast and consistent.

I can't wait to return and challenge it again.

The greens were and are bent grass. Nicest bent grass I have ever
played - ran at 12 on a wet day. Poa annua is a vile weed of a
surface, and I have never seen it down south. Out west it is dominant
to the point of exclusion, but I've yet to see it down here...thank
god.

I posted about that course a couple of weeks ago:

I'm betting your companians were not only better golfers, but better
people also.
