To give The Golf Channel exclusive broadcasting rights for the Thurs. and Fri. rounds for all regular PGATOUR tournaments in 2007 smacks of desperation from the PGATOUR! It indicates that no one else was willing to make a better bid! Come on! The freakin' Golf Channel! Since broadcast money is one of the main reasons prize money is so high (driven by Tiger's popularity), I wonder whether prize money will be affected in 2008 onwards? I know they have that 10mil FedexCup payoff in 2007 but I wonder about the overall prize money in all the regular PGATLUR tournaments. I do not think The Golf Channel's viewership is that high...

Do you have any numbers establishing that Thursday and Friday TV money is as big a deal as you claim? The origins of Thursday and Friday golf on TV was that it was cheap programming for the cable networks since the broadcast networks already had everything in place ready to go for Saturday and Sunday coverage. That said, Thursday and Friday coverage on TGC may well increase the audience since there will be a regular and consistent schedule instead of the current hodgepodge on ESPN, USA, TNT, TGC, etc. etc. "RyderCup&PrezCupSux" <RyderCup&PrezCupSux@Sux.com > wrote in message news:Xns98475F0617B1boolaboola@199.45.49.11... > To give The Golf Channel exclusive broadcasting rights for the Thurs. and > Fri. rounds for all regular PGATOUR tournaments in 2007 smacks of > desperation from the PGATOUR! The problem with the big three networks is that they aren't guaranteed that Tiger will be playing in the later pairs on Saturday and Sunday. If the PGA would let Tiger play in one of the last three pairs then they would pay more for the broadcast rights. If only Tiger would play in 30 tournaments a year the PGA would be rolling in the money.
