Subject: Death of Ernie Els' Father-in-Law

"Ernie Els' father-in-law, Piet Wehneyer, died Wednesday in Cape Town, South Africa, following a short illness. He was 87. Els' wife, Liezl, flew home to be with her family. Els stayed in Medinah to compete in the PGA and shot a one-under 71 on Thursday." Anyone know why Els isn't going back to be with his family? Maybe they are estranged? Els, his wife, and their kids go to South Africa only three times a year.

Didn't I read recently where Ernie is building a golf course and residential / commercial development in S. Africa? Or was that an old news report? >mho >v fe >=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0"d R i V e =A0L e $ s"

> Didn't I read recently where Ernie is building a golf course and > residential / commercial development in S. Africa? Yes, plus another course elsewhere in the country. From my original question, I think you are insinuating he goes to South Africa more than 3 times a year. Not to be argumentative, but my statement is based on a direct quote from his wife. Plus, his golf courses may be nowhere near where his in-laws live. South Africa is twice the size of Texas. Also, some golfers who create courses visit the sites as little as four times (I'm not saying Ernie is so neglectful). Back to my original question, let me be more straightforward: Why would a multi-millionaire choose money he doesn't need over his family? Could it be Els is a competitor whose top priority is not his family? Or could his father-in-law be one who would want Els to continue playing?
