. . . create a new position - a person with a large wooden mallet to hit
Nance and Wadkins in the head at the beginning of the broadcast. Everything
that Wadkins says is wrong, stupid, or blindingly obvious. And what was
that about with Nance creaming over which future major at what course Tiger
will win number 19 at (hey, Jim, he is only at 12 - there's plenty of time
for that when he gets to, oh say, 17).Feherty and McCord are at least
interesting and Peter O is informative. But neither Wadkins nor Nance has
any redeeming qualities.

And the mute button is no solution because I like to hear the crowd noise,
the sound of the ball hitting the ball, and the occasionally intelligent
things said by the other announcers.

CBS also needs to buy a few more HD cameras. I'd bet that less than 50% of
the broadcast images on the HD broadcast were actually from HD cameras.

Yet another "coverage sucks" post.

If every one of you impotent she-males would just divert your attention
away from the PGA coverage for a few weeks, CBS would get the
message...........and show reruns of Saved By The Bell instead.

That Screech kid was a friggin hoot.

I wish my local CBS affiliate would get their ass in gear and start
doing HD. At least I got to see some HD golf on TNT before the
weekend. Of course, this wouldn't have helped me this weekend...I was
at a swimming camp riding herd over a bunch of preteens. But I did
get to see some of it on my phone. I had a good signal and the link
that Larry Bud provided actually worked for video.

Are you using an antenna or cable? The local station only has one broadcast
frequency which they use for regular TV, but most cable providers have both
regular TV and HDTV for all the major networks.

Several times I saw the broadcast sort of stop and stutter. I don't
know whether that was national - nor even which broadcaster it was.

Use the Nance and Wakin's large wooden mallet and hit her in the head
with it.

CBS can start with making Bobby "I'm so bored and boring" Clampet the
sacrificial offering to the gods of media magic the first victim of a
house cleaning...

Nance, once upon a time, was at least tolerable... of course, that was
when he had Mr. Obvious, Ken Venturi, in the booth to take the heat...

Venturi/Summerall was far better than Wadkins/Nance.

All you guys who are ranting about Watkins and Nance need to take some
happy pills or see a therapist. It's not really that big a deal. You
got to see all 18 holes of
a major championship. What difference does it make what the
commentators say?
I personally don't care that much for Tiger, but you have to admit he
was masterful
today.

It amazes me that some keep griping about announcers...no matter if
it's the crew with ABC, NBC, or CBS.

Regarding CBS's Lanny and Feherty; they were tour players themselves,
so the fact that they are in awe of him should stand for itself. I
have to think that they know volumes more about golf than any RSGer.

I wasn't complaining about Feherty and I don't doubt that Lanny knows more
about golf than I do. But he never says anything interesting or
informative. And he makes some incredibly stupid and obvious statements.
His job is not to know about golf, it is to communicate what he knows.

TGC played a bunch of clips from current tour players who all said the
same thing. Even Sergio, which surprised me.

The last half of today's broadcast shouldn't count in your evaluation.
It is very tough for analysts to talk about a competition that is for
all practical purposes, over, and they want to keep you tuned on until
the end of the broadcast.

Yes, Venturi and Summerall were better together... mostly because of
Summerall's criptic minimalism... I still remember his rhetorical
question as Nicklaus was about to hit his t-shot at the 15th as Augusta
around 1979... it was as if he suddenly was introspective asking a
question as much to himself as the entire CBS audience... today a line
like this would be scripted:

[Jack in lime green shirt cocks his head after picking out that spot
just 10 feet in front of him, furling the club back with total
assuredness.]
Summerall: "How DO you define greatness?"
[Jack unleashes a perfect drive splitting the old mounding 305 yards
out with a killer t-ball]
Summerall: "Nicklaus would be one way."

They have to fill the time with something. It's a 5 hour broadcast,
and the tournament was over by 3pm.

No, way more than that. The only SD cameras were a few of the

Much is made of the football announing crews as well. I gotta say I've
never watched a sporting event because of the announcers. But it would
be nice if certain personalities didn't detract from the broadcast. I
think CBS should hire Renton Laidlaw, Peter Alliss, and the rest of the
BBC guys. Now those guys can call a tournament.

National broadcasters say they feel they've been unbiased when they
get the same number of mad e-mails from people who say they are biased
against their team - from fans of both teams.

One thing I noticed was how moments of boredom in the coverage was
replaced by spells of complete chaos where every player was shown
making 30 foot putts. Its like they taped all the awesome moments and
then show them all at one.

While I usually complain about the telecasts, I thought the CBS work
was OK this time. A lot more golf and a lot less other junk. Get rid of
Huber and Clampett..although Clampett is great comic relief...the
comment about Woods scoping out the rough for good places to go if he
misses the fairways was right up there with the woody comment!

I'm always anticipating the day when Clampett will say he wishes he
were a woman so he could bear Tiger's child! I figure he has to have it
in him, and it's gonna come out some day!

Wadkins has an extensive and impressive golf resume. Even though people
think he can be repetitive and inane, he occasionally has a good
observation, and he is definitely qualified to comment.
