Subject: Any source for tour yardage books (ie Lucas')

I have looked online, and only found tour yardage books at tpk.com,
though I know George Lucas (for example) has made books for hundreds of
courses.
Does anyone know of a site that sells them, or other extremely detailed
books? (ie either from the PGA/LPGA tour, or Nike/Buy.com/Nationwide)
I have seen guidebooks for sale at courses soon after an event, but if
I miss out on those I was curious if there is another source.
Thanks-

I bought a TPC Sawgrass yardage book a few months ago, direct from
their website. I think this is the Lucas books. They were for sale
with a big list of past tournaments and qty remaning. Unfortunately I
need to find that website - I don't have the link with me now.

But keep looking. Unless it shut down, what your'e looking for is
definitely out there.

If the yardage book you bought for the TPC at Sawgrass is in color, it's not
the Lucas Book.

Believe me, the "civilian" yardage books are never as detailed as the ones
George Lucas does for the pros.

If you want to see what the Lucas Book looks like, go to
http://www.rsg-atlanta.com/06pga.htm and scroll down to see a page I scanned
from the book he did on Medinah.

There is a company called Golfwits (www.golfwits.com) that sells pretty
detailed digital course maps, and you can also print out your own
yardage books. Not sure if they're as detailed as the pro books.

They're not available online...unless some yokel is selling theirs on e-Bay.

Your best bet is to visit the caddy shack (or clubhouse) next time the TOUR
visits your town. They're $15. Cash only.

A "gimme" can best be defined as an agreement between
two golfers neither of whom can putt very well.

Yes, I saw that. I'm surprised. Lucas never used to print these things up
in bulk for the purpose of general sales to the public. He always printed
up just enough to cover the players, caddies, media, and maybe a few others
like tournament officials, rules people, and golf course officials. I've
never seen the Lucas Books for sale, for instance, in the gift tents at
tournaments. They were always a cash-only transaction in either the caddy
barn or, on a couple of occasions, in the clubhouse itself (which at many
tournaments is off-limits to the public). I'll bet he doesn't print up more
than a few hundred for each tournament venue. I've known them to be sold
out as early as Thursday at some tournaments. So to see them for sale like
this is surprising. But maybe he got so many requests for them, he decided
to make them available. Who knows? Or it could be he just dumped some
over-runs and is getting rid of them this way. He updates the books every
couple of years for each course (and certainly any time there's a design
change), so these things don't generally have a very long shelf life.

Why leave free money on the table? Tour sales should cover production costs.
Other than the printing costs themselves, anything sold to the unwashed
masses is all profit.

I just wish he made one for a course I might have a chance of playing! :-)

Actually, he has. There are several TOUR venues that are open to the
public. Pebble Beach, of course, is one you can play, although it's
expensive as hell. Torrey Pines is far more reasonable. The TPC at
Sawgrass is one that's available to you. And if you're ever staying in the
DFW area, consider staying at the beautiful resort hotel overlooking the TPC
at Las Colinas, which offers relatively affordable golf packages.

I'm sure there are a few others, but those come immediately to mind.

I think that's exactly the situation. Mine is a colored cover and b/w
print. It's very nicely detailed.

That's exactly the way they are sold to the TOUR players.

Bright day-glo color covers, b&w drawings on the inside.
