I did a search of the newsgroup and didn't see this mentioned anywhere.

JB Holes set a one-tournament record for driving distance in the
WGC-Bridgestone Invitational by averaging 350 yards for the week.

His eight drives were measured at 307, 405, 338, 413, 321, 364, 272 and
380.

I'm glad he recovered from his slow start to pull through.

Are you kidding me?

I don't see a JB Holes but I assume you are alluding to JB Holmes.

Based on the fact that he finished 18 shots out of the lead and with 49
competitors ahead of him, it is hardly worth a mention.

49 superior scores and 18 strokes tells me the the long distance off the tee
isn't worth much.

I would certainly use my valium as prescribed, but my anxiety is so bad
I am afraid to take it.

Yep, and I guess I am weird, but I get more satisfaction sinking a long
put or sticking my approach to within a couple of feet than hitting a
long drive, which for me is 300 yards. People should be more
fascinated by awesome sand play, good putting, ect, these are the real
skills.

Now, what people have to realize is that, a good golfer would more
easily become a pro if he could only drive the ball 200 yards but play
the rest of his game like Tiger, than the reverse....drive the ball 400
yards but maintain his ability in all other areas of the game.

there is nothing wrong with distance, as long as it is in the right
direction.

it's all a matter of coordination of the mechanics in a positive way..

golf isn't, and shouldn't be a "circus attraction."

WHO CARES, WHO CARES, AND WHO CARES!!!!! I can hit a ball 300 YARDS,
BUT WHO CARES!!!!!
When did all this distnance off the tee become so the focus? Golf is
about "touch" not distance. If a person only hits the ball 260 yards
with a driver and 220 yards with a three wood, he'd still have enough
distance to play on the PGA tour given he had the other skills---the
more important ones--chipping, putting, approach shots, ect.
WHO CARES IF SOMEONE CAN DRIVE THE BALL ONTO THE GREEN BUT THREE PUTS
HALF THE TIME-----WHOOOO CARRRRRES.

JUST REVERSE THE SCENARIO AND YOU WILL SEE HOW FOOLISH IT ALL IS---A
GUY IS THE BEST PUTTER IN THE WORLD. HE ONE PUTS EVERY GREEN.
UNFORTUNATELY, HE CAN ONLY DRIVE THE BALL 50 YARDS AND SLICES HALF THE
TIME INTO THE WOODS. HE ALSO CAN'T GET ON IN REGULATION ENOUGH TIMES
TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HIS SUPERIOR PUTTING SKILLS.

Most everybody (who is interested in golf) is fascinated by the long
ball. We all love to show off (even in our fantasies). Look
around.

The person one position better in the Official Tour rankings is Steve
Stricker. Do more paying fans want to see Homes or Stricker? It's
not even close.

Your statement wasn't that "it would be possible", your statement is
that distance isn't important. There's a reason why most of the top
guys are long ball hitters.

They dominate on the pro tours. And most of the people in my Men's
Club top half are significantly longer than most of the people in my
Men's Club bottom half.

That doesn't mean we all (in the Men's Club - the PGA tour has pretty
much proven the value of its members hitting long) wouldn't be better
off hitting a little shorter.

I would think that if you understand / practice good "ball striking
techniques", distance is a salient result.

short knockers are not all "wash-outs", there are some in the top ten.

learn to strike in a straight way, then add the distance.

the wannabe killers are seldom anything else.

No, I would not. I simply stated, if you pay attention, that in my
opinion it would be possible to be a tour pro if you could only hit to
these distances, of course assuming the rest of your game was
tantamount to a good tour pro.

Ridiculous. On a 480 yard hole, would you rather be hitting a 3 wood
into the green, or an 8 iron?

Hi Otto, perhaps he does not know that pink is the new black this
season??

Sissy boy better get rid of that driver and get himself a manly putter.
