With the inexperience of the U.S. team, how much of a chance will they have against the experience and talent of the Europeans. Unless Leyman has something going that the rest of the world can't see, it looks as though the dominance of the Europeans is going to be a lock to me.

In their recent run of success (1985 on), they were locked contractually into using The Belfry, which is a long way short of a classic course, but owned by the British PGA. Now they are out of that, let's hope for some real courses in the rotation. The problem, I think, is twofold. Number one, links course, by their very nature, tend to be difficult to get to and from, so handling the anticipated crowd is an issue. Secondly, they are not set up a "tv friendly", and the networks prefer the more modern venues. But we can always hope. Royal Portrush, Royal County Down, or Portmarnock would all have been more interesting than the K Club. William Clark

The "experienced" US team that always looked far superior, talent-wise, on paper did a fine job of losing more Ryder Cups than they won in the last decade or so. So maybe having some fresh blood who doesn't carry the baggage of being accustomed to losing will be a good thing for the US this time. Randy

Which is what people thought a few years ago about the USA's colossally strong team against a bunch of inexperienced Europeans. Doesn't always work out that way, though.

The Europeans have clearly shown that a bunch of eager, enthusiastic, up and comers love nothing more than to stick it to the fancied favorites. Plus they are playing on an inland, American-style, course, and not the seaside links they could have (more sensibly) used. I take the US to win this one. William Clark

One would think so, but it seems clear that there are commercial pressures that appear to outweigh the golfing ones. I know that access was a major concern for Portmarnock, which sits on the Howth Peninsula, and has very limited traffic access. William Clark

What's wrong with Celtic Manor? From the top of the hotel you can get a magnificent view of Llanwern steelworks. :-/ When I used to do some work down at Llanwern I would stay at the Travelodge (a few hundred yards from CM) for =A340 a night. I wonder if their rooms are booked up already?! I might try and get to that RC. Even though I live over the border in Somserset, it's only about 30 mins to get to Newport.
