Hi, can i get your opinion here please? I have a 5 month old Cobra 414 driver. Its a nice club, love the feel and the shaft. Last weekend while playing I tee'd one a bit too high and sky'd it. Not totally off the top of the club, but the ball was probably about 20% over the edge. Still carried about 240 yards. Looked at the club for a potential sky k and was shocked to see a 2 inch crack running parallel to the face. crack is on the top of the club about 1/8 inch back from the face. brought the club to the golf shop where I was promptly told "inappropirate use" and "cobra will not warranty" so, one bad hit = totalled $300 club?

I cracked a Callaway Hawk Eye VFT, right in the middle of the face. The crack slowly propagated vertically, and got so that sometimes when I hit the ball it wouldn't work just right. Callaway is aware their driver faces are close to the tolerance for impact, and limits the time of warranty. I didn't try to get it replaced, but it broke with a normal drive. I bought an identical replacement at Callawaypreowned and so far so good. -PA

The rep probably has to deal with that shop on a regular basis and is probably a lot of his commission while you are merely one guy with a driver. I'm not saying it is sound business practice but the Cobra rep probably doesn't have much sway over the shop. I don't understand why the shop owed you anything though since you did not buy it there.

I was worried that the ebay shop had sold you one of those special Hong Kong Cobras. There was at one time a lot of counterfeiting going on. I can't imagine a reputable company not replacing the club in that situation.

Greg - Cobra was both fast and positive on the phone. When I called back to reiterate what the first shop told me, and trying to dog the place a bit, the rep really didn't want to get into that. He just suggested a better place to go. I'll post back after Cobra has received the club and decides what to do, but I'm feeling pretty positive now. thanks for the advice, you were correct. I called Cobra again, and the rep there confirmed Ebay buy is no problem, might be if the club was used and not in good shape but this was new. He recommended a local shop located at Westboro Country Club, just down the road from here. The pro there was a really nice guy, called Cobra and described the fracture as the face separating from the head, and they authorized the RMA.. club is in the mail. Thanks!

I got royally pissed off and told the kid i'd play him straight up anytime he could take the afternoon off. then the manager came over to throw in his 2 cents - "Cobra won't warranty anything bought on ebay." So i told him what the cobra rep told me. and he said, "no, he's wrong, they won't" i was angry all night long. I'm stupid that way.

Thanks for the replies. I did contact Cobra first, who told me to go through any golf shop that carries the brand. I had hoped they would give me an rma and i could just send back, but that wasn't happening. I bought the club new on ebay from proshopwarehouse.com. They don't respond to my email, and so i tried the local golf shop, who, as soon as they heard ebay, were obviously not willing to deal with me. The tech from Cobra was aware I bought on ebay and didn't seem to have any problem with that. I will try another shop tonite or tomorrow and see what they say.

I had a local Nevada Bob's refuse to get a Cobra driver reshafted for me. Tried another place and they were willing to send it in for me to be reshafted by Cobra. Check a number of stores and good luck. Dave

Every club should be able to tolerate a skyk. I'd try two things. First, I'd go back to the store and ask them again, nicely, to resolve it. If they won't, indicate--nicely--that this is the last thing you'll ever buy there, and you'll pass that sentiment on to your friends and acquaintances, as well as report the experience on the internet. If they don't change their tune, contact the manufacturer. This club should have no problem with this--it's a manufacturing defect. They should replace it. Hi I had a very simmilier experiance with a K1 30min after purchasing it went out to the driving range to give it a whak went very well and was hitting some sweet shots, untill hit an off shot and cracked the crown straight down the middle. I had a very long and agument with the shop bought it from as paid like you =A3175 and it lasted about an hour. Finnally they admitted that they had had anouth club come back to them with the same problem and I got my cash back. I was lucky it went when it did as I do not think that if had the club for some time then they would have believed it was the clubs fault not mine. I did get to keep the free bald eagle balls I got with it though in compensation as told them I was midway through a round when if failed. I sujest contacting the manufacturer as they might replace it for you for shipping costs as they do get defective clubs now and again, play the simperthy vote it might help. good luck
