Playing a decent round today. With a couple of guys that I regularly
play with. One is a pretty good friend. The other is an opinionated
conservative who seems to know it all(taxes, weight loss, golf swing)
and isn't afraid to express opinions, whether you want to hear them or
not.

Today, after a brief comment made by me that Tiger wouldn't hit the
ball much further if he roided up he goes off in a long rant how
that's so untrue how Zubek and the other long hitters are roided up(of
course he knows this for a fact cause he just does). After I cut him
off saying I don't want to hear anything more he just continues to
scream that he's right I don't know what i am talking about. So I
tell him to shut up. He sorta assaults me by punch/pushing the right
side of my chest. I didn't back down, but I didn't say anything
either, I just let him rant while my other buddy stood between us.

Would you ever play with this guy again? The reason I ask is that he
plays with my other buddies along and I often don't know when he's
going to be there. Would you just leave if you friends showed up with
him?

Another sensible post in this thread and a distinct possiblity.
However, there are two flaws in using parables on usenet:

1) each usenet warrior will see himself as the good guy on the white
horse, and the others as bad.

2) it's unclear who the good or bad guy is in this story.

Art Sellinger, one of the founders of the Long Drive Championship, is an
acquaintance of mine. We co-hosted a golf radio call-in show many years
ago, and I got to know him a little bit. We played golf together a time or
two. Art, a former long drive champ himself, never struck me as being
"'roided up'." Although he was (and I would assume, still is) "big" by
"golfer standards" (whatever that is). He doesn't strike me as the type who
would condone drug-enhanced performance on his Tour. But I could be wrong.

Either way, I wouldn't play golf with that jar-head friend of yours. It
sounds to me like HE'S 'roided up. Or on crack. Or both.

A total loser, and precisely the type of person I do everything in my power
to avoid.

You are arguing over Tiger Woods?

I don't want to play with either of you.

JMHO, of course, but after you made the comment about a rhoided Tiger,
which is an OK comment IMHO, it was downhill on both sides. The other guy
is a psycho for going off in response to your original comment, again,
IMHO. For me, I wouldn't have responded at all to the rant, I would have
just walked away. If I were stuck in the same cart with him, I might have,
and hope I would have just pulled my clubs from the cart and gone home if
he kept ranting on.

You can play with a person without ever talking to them.

People like this almost always rely on someone else feeding them just
enough argument to be their preferred half-drunk asshole opinionated
selves. If you and the others completely ignore them and every aspect
of their existence, they stop.

But I would never play with such an asshole. He's definitely an American.

I'd give him another chance. Let him know his behavior was
unacceptable. If it was an aberration, you still have a golf
partner. If he continues it, life is too short.

If he continues it without knowing what is causing those consequences,
someone will end up hurt.

play the game of golf why would johnda even listen? We all have to

In any group there are going to be a-holes. Just do your best to
not get in his group or if in his group, keep your distance. I don't
see any reason to give up on the other players you enjoy.
