My sister lives in Atlanta. The other night she orders a couple of pizzas to be delivered. The delivery guy finally shows up about an hour later, pulls in her driveway, jumps out like he's in a hurry, leaves his motor running, and runs up on the front porch. While my sister is getting the money ready some dude jumps in the pizza delivery car and drives off with it. The delivery guy was pretty pissed (natch), but my nephews all got a big laugh out of it. Just another day in the ATL....

Our main gates (2) are manned at all times that they are open. Residents must have a transponder or stop for a license check. The back gate gets closed at 6pm. There is a side gate that is open during the day that lets anyone exit and only transponders in. It closes at 8pm. All gates have video. There are patrols all day and night by the security force Wackenhut.) I can't tell you the crime rate because I never heard of any. A member of our club had his laser rangefinder stolen out of his golf cart at a function last year. And I had a golf ball stolen from me by the owner of the club. I couldn't find my ball on a par three and took the max for the hole. Two holes later he's putting with it. He had hit the wrong ball on the par three and figured it was his. I didn't report it because I don't have an emotional attachment to golf balls. I lose them so often I would be a wreck if I did. Besides, he would have thrown me out of the club and I had a good round going. ;-) Mike P.S. I was lying about the good round.

I have never had anyone burglarize any of my homes. Sometimes we even go out for a few hours without remembering to lock the doors. You should have locking glove boxes on your golf carts. > And I had a golf ball stolen from me by the owner of the club. I couldn't > find my ball on a par three and took the max for the hole. BTW, I spent last weekend on a video shoot for a small radio station run by a friend of mine up in the GA mountains outside of Helen, and for a brief period on Sunday, on the very top of a mountain. I'm guessing that as we hiked from the radio station's transmitter to a bluff where I could get some scenic footage of the valley down below, we were easy targets for any bears that live in those woods. I'm sure there are a few. My friend tells me there's some golf courses up that way. We should do a weekend golf-a-thon someplace up there...after the weather warms up. Make sure your transmission is in good working order. Randy

I live an hour and change away from Atlanta. I would never live in a subdivision for any reason (even if they were giving away homes); but I would think gated is way better than non-gated for a myriad of reasons. Not the least of which is keeping your mother-in-law away. :-)
