Subject: Whispers from the dark side
Club making has always interested me, but I've been wary of the
dark side because I know myself. Lately, the whispers have been
growing because of a new found interest in putters. Seems
assembling and modifying ones own putters would be far
less risky. Any of you dark siders work much with putters?

We'll see. One of these days I'm gonna lop an inch off of my Scotty

Current temptation is based upon a desire to regrip a $20 bargin
bin putter I bought to try out another style. I got what I paid for
which
amongst other anomolies is a grip that isn't aligned with the putter
face.
(Grip has a flat spot on it). Seemed it would be cheaper to do it
myself than to pay the golf shop to regrip a $20 putter. What am I
going to spend to competently install and align a putter grip? How's
about "bending" the metal shaft to change the orientation with the
face? FWIW we have a Golfsmith shop in town.

I've made a couple, and they turned out well.

One thing has me reluctant though - the balancing of the putter. I
believe (IIRC) that the best assembly has the vertical center of
gravity going through the sweet spot of the face. Not sure aside from
hanging it along a vertical edge to predict or measure that
characteristic.

The road to Darkside Hell is paved with putters. :-)
