Subject: Which SG GPS unit?
|
Ok, I'm convinced that this is the best and most valuable product on the ket to improve my golf game (other than lessons and who wants to take those?). I would like some input as to the SG2 verses the SG3. Just interested in the real use of these units-I know the SG3 has a larger screen but what about everyday use?

I know this is off topic, but I use IGolfScorer on my Nokia N70 with a BT GPS unit, find this OK, http://www.igolfscorer.com/ "Jackson" <hackman55@comcast.net > wrote in message news:r42dne5WsI8IbAXYnZ2dnUVZ_oannZ2d@comcast.com... > Ok, I'm convinced that this is the best and most valuable product on the > ket to improve my golf game (other than lessons and who wants to take > those?). I guess one of the major criteria I was interested in was the viewing area. It appears that you can see more 'stuff' on the SG3 and SG4. Is that correct?? If displaying the center of the green twice on the same screen is more stuff then the SG3 and SG4 do have more stuff. Since they use the same course maps, only the presentations differ. The SG2 has two displays for center of the green only or front, center, back of the green. The SG3 and SG4 has an option to put both on the same screen at the same time. The are 4 different units. SG1 - rechargeable - center of the green only - Sky Caddie list $230 SG2 - rechargeable - full course mapping - $280 SG3 - 2 AA batteries - full course mapping - slight smaller and slimmer than the SG1 and SG2 - $299 SG4 - rechargeable - full course mapping - slight smaller and slimmer than the SG1 and SG2 - $350 Since they use the same course maps, the biggest SG2/SG3 difference is batteries vs. rechargeable. If you are playing the same course most of the time, the SG3 is simpler to use since you don't have to remember to recharge it just pack some extra batteries in the bag. If you are constantly reloading courses - the Sky Caddie only holds ten at a time - then it comes into the house be reloaded anyway. We compared an SG2 and SG4 side by side and they display the same information. The yardages never varied more than a yard or two which is the WAAS standard. The SG4 responded faster in the moving cart, but once the cart stopped the SG2 caught up immediately. If you play the same course or courses that you know well enough to hit drives and second shots on 5s and are only interested in distances to the green, then look around on the internet or ebay for a cheaper SG1. The AA' vs. rechargeable is a toss up. And the SG3 is taller and thicker than the SG2 - not smaller and slimmer.

SAG? Batteries vs. rechargeable is not a toss-up. One must remember to recharge the rechargeable vs. throwing extra batteries in the golf bag. <fiveiron is not@webtv.net > wrote in message news:9dWdnRIROeNtpQTYnZ2dnUVZ_oannZ2d@comcast.com... > > "sfb" <sfb@spam.net> wrote in message > news:m-edncY1FpHVlQTYnZ2dnUVZ_o-knZ2d@comcast.com... >> The are 4 different units. >> >> SG1 - rechargeable - center of the green only - Sky Caddie list $230 >> SG2 - rechargeable - full course mapping - $280 >> SG3 - 2 AA batteries - full course mapping - slight smaller and slimmer >> than the SG1 and SG2 - $299 >> SG4 - rechargeable - full course mapping - slight smaller and slimmer >> than the SG1 and SG2 - $350 >> > > The SAG is also water resistant - the SAG needs a Ziploc or other > protection from water. > The AA' vs. rechargeable is a toss up. > And the SG3 is taller and thicker than the SG2 - not smaller and slimmer. >

I travel, I download different courses while on the road, so I have the charge/download cable with me anyway.

That was my main reason for not buying the SG3. As you say, not a toss-up.
