Subject: When does the ball drop?
Question out there;

If your approach, or putt sits the lip of the cup and you have a feeling it
may drop. How long can you wait before finishing it up?

Any official rules on the time before you have to finish your hole? Than
rather waiting and jumping and screaming for your ball to roll the 1mm?

thanks

Is there a virtual echo on this board?

I didn't see Gavette's post before I sent mine. Brazee's just makes
sure that no one will miss the rule. :-)

A couple of years ago a spectator called in and got a tour pro
penalized when he waited too long after walking up to the ball - and
didn't replace his ball after it fell in.

16-2 Ball Overhanging Hole
When any part of the ball overhangs the lip of the hole, the player is
allowed enough time to reach the hole without unreasonable delay and
an additional ten seconds to determine whether the ball is at rest. If
by then the ball has not fallen into the hole, it is deemed to be at
rest. If the ball subsequently falls into the hole, the player is
deemed to have holed out with his last stroke, and he must add a
penalty stroke to his score for the hole; otherwise, there is no
penalty under this Rule.
(Undue delay — see Rule 6-7.)

Something wrong with that...he doesn't have to replace the ball.....he
just has to add a 'penalty' stroke to his score. It is called a
'penalty' stroke because there is nothing else to call it....he didn't
actually make 'a stroke', nor did he do anything wrong!

You're correct here. He put down the wrong score nevertheless.

Did he have an option of replacing his ball (not that it makes any
difference)?

No...the hole was completed when the ball dropped.

Rule 16-2

When any part of the ball overhangs the lip of the hole, the player is
allowed enough time to reach the hole without unreasonable delay and an
additional ten seconds to determine whether the ball is at rest. If by then
the ball has not fallen into the hole, it is deemed to be at rest. If the
ball subsequently falls into the hole, the player is deemed to have holed
out with his last stroke, and he must add a penalty stroke to his score for
the hole; otherwise, there is no penalty under this Rule.

For most boys, the balls drop at about 12.

What your problem is, I have no idea.

MN,
IIRC there is a time limit to wait. Either ten seconds or the amount
of time it would take to walk up the green to the cup. I just don't
remember which rule it is. Ain't it a btch getting old??

Good luck,

Draco

Getting even isn't good enough.
