They call it a ringer round ... the difference here is it's not just one guy's lowest score it's everyone ... still pretty impressive: 33 (17-16). And the highest (no, not Phil's round today!!) 164 (76-88). http://www.masters.org/en_US/history/records/highest.html#hl_hole1 Bob

As an aside, 'eclectic' comes from the Greek *eklektikos*, a philosopher's term for 'selecting from each school of thought those doctrines that pleased him'. It derives from the Greek 'eklego', which means 'to pick out'. Our handicapper keeps players best hole scores in a book (I'm presently converting the system to an Excel spreadsheet). He goes through all the Saturday competition cards and records whether players had pars, birdies and eagles for each of the 18 holes. The gross eclectic is 'off the stick', normally around 52-54 wins (i.e. a birdie per hole for 18 holes, par 70). The handicap eclectic is the gross eclectic score minus the player's finishing handicap for the year. BTW, anyone know an Excel formula that would total the highest three of four selected cells i.e. for a trophy where the scores taken are the best three of four rounds? -- Cheers Colin Wilson ------------------------------------------------------------------ Trentham Golf Club: http://www.trenthamgolf.com Barnbougle Dunes: http://publishing.kyneton.net.au/barnbougle ------------------------------------------------------------------

If contiguous cells use colon if not contiguous, use comma Ex: Contiguous Range is in a1 thru a4 =sum(a1:a4)-min(a1:a4) Non Contiguous Range is in a1 d1 e1 h1 =sum(a1,d1,e1,h1)-min(a1,d1,e1,h1) Joe

The spreadsheet would be for trophy events where there are four rounds, best three of four to be taken. The sheet would have six columns, one for the player's name, then four scores (for rounds 1, 2, 3 and 4), then a total. I don't think you could just sort into descending order, because one player might drop round 1 and another might drop round 3, etc. What I'd want is a formula for the 'total' column that for each player picks his best scores from rounds 1, 2, 3 and 4. -- Cheers Colin Wilson ------------------------------------------------------------------ Trentham Golf Club: http://www.trenthamgolf.com Barnbougle Dunes: http://publishing.kyneton.net.au/barnbougle ------------------------------------------------------------------

Usual names on the board are the low handicappers due to the amount of birdies they can notch up. Rog
