Subject: Walking Rules
For the most part, I have walked for well over a year now. The only time
I ride these days is when I am totally burned out or I am playing in a
group where everyone is riding. I have very recently started to really
get my legs into my swing, and started to hit the ball really well. Part
of it is a swingchange reducing my backswing, but stronger legs are
clearly another part of it. My legs are *SORE* after playing a round.
Thankfully there is a front moving through this weekend, so I won't golf
again until at least monday (played M/W/Th/F this week!) and give my
legs a chance to recover (sadly, I can't mow the lawn either..just sit
here and play my guitar, watch some TV (is that Serena Williams a rhoid
Queen or what?) grade some exams and read newsgroups....).

unfortanetly, they pulled quinine off the ket as a treatment for
RLG, they claimed it was never intended to do so, and rightlfully so,
its a malaria treatment, but one has to wonder, why does that coincide
with the keting of a much much more expansive medicine for the same

Quinine is still available in an OTC called "Leg Cramps with Quinine" at CVS
and Walgreens...It's listed as the 2nd ingredient, and for me, is quite
effective. I took quinine on my visits to Africa in the 80's. I was banned
from donating blood at the RedCross for 10 years after.

For what it's worth..............my brother drinks Tonic Water (without the
vodka) each day to ward off LEG CRAMPS. His doctor (a friend) told him to
do that.

Pricks that "ride" aren't golfers. And it's against the rules.

If you play as much as you say and always walk, there is no reason for
your legs to be sore. Sounds like something is wrong, see a Doctor.

Actually, BiGold, the walking itself doesn't bother me that much. We
humans can walk all day. It's the use of the legs more in the swing that
is getting to me. Like anything else like this, I'll get used to it, but
I'll look in a mirror anyways!

I operate a desk Monday thru Friday. I try to go to the gym everyday and
do 30 minutes on an elliptical and lift weights three times a week.
Walking a flat course doesn't bother me, however, put some hills on the
courses and I do have some soreness after the round. It's all about the
muscle groups you are using.

Exactly what are you're physical shortcomings? Just sounds like you are
terribly out of shape. I'll occasionally take an OTC pill containing
quinine if I have a bit of restless leg syndrome after playing on soft
fairways. I usually walk for exercise those days I don't play golf.

I am not familiar with walking for excercise, but I can walk all day, like
just about any human. Never had any sort of restless leg syndrome and I avoid
pills as mich as I can. As for excercise value; Buddy Guy said it best many
years ago. He and his parents and siblings had to walk everywhere, like miles
to the (one and only) store and miles to school. He says if walking were so
good for you his parents would have still been alive (at that time).
