My State Association (VGA) has set up a $200,000 fighting fund to help
golf courses save their greens in the light of the continuing severe
Australian drought. The fighting fund will operate until 30th April.

The fund will assist clubs that need to purchase and/or cart water in
order to keep putting greens alive. Eligible clubs are those that are
facing closure or genuine hardship due to depleted financial resources
... circumstances progressing to a point where the club is unable to
protect itself or survive using its own available resources.

Many of these are small rural clubs that are the "social centre" of the
community. They have lost players and members due to the drought, and
loss of their greens will mean a large expense for recovery that many
will not be able to afford.

Golfers are invited to make a donation to the fighting fund. Donations
will be accepted until 15th April 2007 and can be sent to:

Victorian Golf Association
15 Bardolph Street
Burwood 3125
Ph: 03 9889 6731
Fax: 03 9889 1077
Email: vga@golfvic.org.au

Cheques can be made payable to "Victorian Golf Drought Relief Fund".

Details are at the Golf Australia web site:

Oh my God! How horrible! I was going to send $100,000 to a Darfur
relief fund, but your cause is obviously much more important, so I've
mailed it to you instead.

Sorry, right now I have all my liquid cash tied up in a fund transfer with
the Nigerian Commerce and Industry council, but any day now I should have a
large influx of cash once my transaction is completed..
