Subject: U.S. Masters ticket question
Hi there....I'm from Scotland and I'm looking to take my father over
to Augusta for his 60th birthday. Augusta's website says that only
"patrons" can apply for U.S. Masters tickets and that the waiting list
to become a patron has been closed, so officially, you can't get
tickets. However, there are plenty event ticket websites selling
Masters tickets - are they bona fide? (I'm afraid of shelling out
thousands of pounds and getting turned away when we get there because
the tickets are not official or something.)

The other thing I was considering, if that's not a good option, is to
apply for practice round tickets.

Any advice would be welcome!

Thanks,
John

No, they do not.

Anywhere from +$1000 to $5000.

No. They scan all tickets to see if they are legit. The tickets have
holograms on them that would make them tough to duplicate.

They are very particular there. You must have the ticket in your hand
to hand it to the person who will scan it. They won't scan it if it's
already tied to your belt loop. Also, forget about carrying a
cellphone in, even during practice rounds. They "wand" about every
third person in line looking for cellphones. One time I was loaded
down with all sorts of camera lenses and equipment and they didn't
bother me, but caught my buddy who forgot he had his cellphone with
him. I was like, "Who the Hell did you think you were gonna call?"

Another peculiar thing is that they will let you bring in bottled
water, but first you must remove all labels from the bottle. They
don't want any advertising on the grounds that they aren't getting
paid for. The bottled water they sell on the course has it's own
Masters label. I have found the best vintage to be around
1989-1990 ..... the Faldo Years.

That's great if you want to wait until 2:30. Of course, on Wednesday
they close the big course at like 3:00PM and most of the players are
playing the par-3 course. If you get there around 8:00AM-10:00AM you
can expect to pay at least $100-$150 for a ticket.

But if you just wanna see the course for the first time, waiting until
the afternoon is probably your best bet on any of the practice round
days (Mon-Wed). You can usually get some good buys from people
leaving for the day who will sell you their ticket.

I got practice round tix easily also a few years ago outside the
gate...just out of curiosity though, what do Thu-Sun badges go for?
Also, I've read that Augusta checks ID compared to badge, etc. Any
real truth to this?

Tickets easy. Hotels hard. We stayed in a real dump near downtown.
Better get your rooms confirmed right away.

I live in Augusta and I can tell you without a doubt there are ALWAYS
practice round tickets and tournament tickets available each day of Masters
week.

If you drive along Washington Road near the front gate of ANGC, you will see
people selling practice round tickets on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. You
will also see tournament round tickets for sell on Thursday, Friday,
Saturday and Sunday.

The price of the tickets depend on who is selling them. With a little
patience and driving around, you WILL find a ticket at a "reasonable" price.

Just last year, my wife and I attended the Wednesday practice round after
buying 2 tickets for $10 each. I bought them at the corner of Washington
Road and Interstate 20 after taking out dog to the Vet. We were on the
course at around 2:30+- and got to see Vjay, Phil, Tiger and other big
names.

As long as you approach the ticket sellers in a positive way (no gun or
police badge) they will sell you tickets for a reasonable amount.

I've been doing this for years and have had no problems.

Hope this helps.

Are you looking for tickets to the actual tournament or just the
practice rounds?
