Subject: Trouble with my golf...
|
Hi! I'm a 16 year old norwegian golfer with a handicap of 4,9, my long time goal is to become a pro golfer and make my living playing golf. I know I have a lot of work to do, and should have been better then I am at this time, but i also know that golf is a lifetime sport, and if I don't give up I have a lot of time. I follow a plan, and now in the off-season (snow outside) practise about 25 hours of golf and 13 hours of exercise each week. I also have individual lessons with my coach 30 min a week, plus 1 hour with my coach and the other players on my "team" Anyway, I dosen't seem to get my swing together now, I try and try but I still dosen't swing good (I will post my swing here next week), the mail problem is that i rotate to much, so I am working on keeping the right knee in the exact same position thru-out the swing, but even on the swings where i manage that, i dosen't get that "stop" at the top, and can't get that strong feeling at the top, so i end op loosing a lot of my power. I guess i need to get less "stretchy", so I can't rotate that much. Are exercising (strength) the only way to fix that? (I'm not that good at English, but i hope you understand) And if you got any good drills to keep the knees bent thru-out the swing, please tell me... So, that's my swing problems, but i also got a little putting problem, I dosen't trust my stroke, and keep on changing my grip. So if you got any god mental tips for my putting, please tell me. And even more importent; I need to decide for a putting grip and stick to it, so if you got any tips/links/pics of a perfect putting grip, please tell me. I would love to know about some different ones too... Thanks for any help!

Here's my swing, it's two weeks old, so my swing now is a little better (hopefully) I can see that my back is not completely straigt the set-up on this video, but thats not something I normally strugle with. http://homepage.mac.com/fredarn/iMovieTheater1.html I'm working on keeping the flex in the right knee, keeping my back/ spine in the same position in the backswing as i have it in the set- up, and straighten my left leg and right arm right before i hit the ball. Any other tips?

This is quite different to your practice 'waggle/takeaway', which looks pretty smooth...dunno if it means anything though! cheers david

Don't do anything with hands and arms except cock the wrists so that the club goes up steeply "on plane" in front of you instead of around behind you. Let the turning of your shoulders be your backswing. Since you now lift up, try to crouch down a little and flex your right knee on the backswing. This is only a feeling, you will probably actually stay level. Avoid swaying your right hip back. Feel your weight move into your right knee, but keep the hips where they are, as much as possible. You should get a definite feeling of coil in the backswing, and you should feel that you are in an athletic position ready to explode forward with the lower body. Once you finish turning your shoulders, fire the hips toward the target and turn them, while keeping your head back. Just hold on to the club, and feel the clubface looking back at the ball with your hands. Things should unfold pretty automatic from there. Feel your hips pull your shoulders pull your left arm pull the club.

Correct, I'am working on keeping the flex in the right knee and keeping my spine in the same angle, now i lift a little, little bit up in the backswing. But it's getting better now, just need to keep on working, and now it looks like I'am soon going to Spain for a week, so i can practise and play some on grass :) I dosen't got any new swing here rigth now, I have a camera, but it's not that important right now. I'll post my swing when I figure out all that I'm working on at the moment... Thanks for the respons. Without seeing your swing, it is hard to say. Why don't you go ahead and post it? I think you are on the right track thinking about the right knee. I don't think you need a lot of exercising to solve the problem, though. I think it is more a matter of technique. I'm guessing that you overswing, and change your spine angle on the backswing, but that is just speculation without seeing the swing.
