It is all about the golf there. My group didn't go last year, and that was a mistake. We went to Utah, and it was fine, but Bandon is just better. I have scored quite well at Bandon before, but been bent over by Pacific. I want to do better on that track this time.

Gorse is very tough and prickly, and I don't think the Broom compares. They may be relatives though.

We get broom too, particularly Spanish broom. Another crazy introduction. They're all *fire weeds*. Light a match and watch the gorse and broom burn like torches. A year later and they're back thicker than ever, covering twice the area. They both suit the Australian fire ecology perfectly. Gorse and blackerries choke the creek right along my course's boundary fence on the 16th hole. Kiss your ball goodbye in that stuff. -- Cheers Colin Wilson ------------------------------------------------------------------ Trentham Golf Club: http://www.trenthamgolf.com Barnbougle Dunes: http://publishing.kyneton.net.au/barnbougle ------------------------------------------------------------------

It will shred you pretty darn quick. Apparently, some wise man introduced it a century ago: "Bandon has a twin city agreement with Bandon, Oregon in the US. That city was founded in 1873 by Lord George Bennet, a native of the Irish Bandon who named the American one after it, and who is known espcially for having introduced gorse into the US ecology with some disastrous results." Bad for the ecology, great for fuelling fires, great for golf.

Gorse is very prickly, we >usually call it Whin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorse says: Gorse is closely related to the brooms, and like them, has green stems and very small leaves and adapts to dry growing conditions, but differs in its extreme spininess, with the leaves being modified into 1-4 cm long spines. All the species have yellow flowers, some with a very long flowering season. I'm not familiar with either. I'll let you assume that's because I hit all my shots on the fairway if you like.
